D-Link Offers All-In-One Wi-Fi Hotspots Management To Large-Scale Business
New Rack-Mounted D-Link Airspot DSA-5100 Offers Network Administrators a One-Stop Networking Solution with Robust Firewall Features, Advanced Management Controls and Load Balancing Capabilities
Fountain Valley, CA-/16 September, 2004 - Wi-Fi Technology News/- D-Link, the global leader in the design and development of connectivity and communications technologies, introduced a new D-Link Airspot Public/Private Service Gateway, a business-class all-in-one hotspot gateway solution designed for enterprise-level hot spot management.
Developed from the award winning D-Link Airspot Public/Private Gateway (DSA-3100), the new gateway features two built-in WAN ports for network load balancing while providing firewall, DHCP server and router functions for both public and private Internet access in a single rack-mountable device simultaneously. Designed to allow medium to large sized businesses to create a public hotspot right out of the box, the new D-Link Airspot Gateway caters to the growing force of Wi-Fi enabled mobile consumers and businesspeople. The D-Link DSA-5100 delivers intelligent management capabilities for monitoring and controlling up to 400 active public user accounts while maintaining a private LAN for employees behind a physical firewall with robust security features.
With the D-Link Airspot Service Gateway, large scale businesses such as hotels, conference halls, university campuses, or corporate headquarters with multiple conference rooms can offer Internet access to up to 400 users concurrently to trade show attendees, students or visiting clients. The DSA-5100's IP Plug-n-Play (IP PnP) capability automatically identifies users' static laptop or PDA network settings and directs their web browser to the businesses' customized web page for login. While the guest user surfs the web, checks email or connects to a private network, the businesses' IT department can track usage time and monitor the guest user's consumed bandwidth. Bandwidth allocation can be limited per user to ensure quality service for all users. Meanwhile, the business can use the same Internet connections provided by the dual WAN ports to work behind the D-Link DSA-5100's firewall, ensuring that guest users will not have access to confidential or sensitive information.
"Businesses are recognizing the need to offer on-demand Internet access for clients and customers, and the DSA-5100 is a simple, scalable and effective way to segregate guest users from a private network with a single device," said Steven Joe, president and CEO of D-Link. "With it's dual WAN ports, robust firewall features and integrated management capabilities, network administrators can now implement wired and wireless access to all aspects of a company without saturating the incoming connection."
The D-Link Airspot Service Gateway provides key management features and audit trails such as the ability to authenticate and authorize who can log on to the public LAN, how long users are connected, how much bandwidth is consumed and where users can surf the web. From the gateway's web-based configuration menu, the administrator can limit user access according to specific MAC or IP addresses, direct customers to custom-designed welcome pages and manage web access and session times. The D-Link Airspot DSA-5100 can manage up to 2000 user accounts in the internal database and it also supports POP3, RADIUS, LDAP concurrently as well as Web (HTTP or HTTPS) internal or external authentication for massive-scale Airspot networks.
The D-Link Airspot Service Gateway provides enhanced network monitoring capability to businesses. With its high-speed routing engine and dual-port load balancing, the gateway can track and store user traffic and balance Internet bandwidth across both public and private users. Businesses can gauge who is logged on by username, IP address and MAC address.
Configuration of the D-Link DSA-5100 gateway is easily handled through the web-based interface. The gateway supports up to 400 logged-in users at one time, and is able to store up to 2000 user accounts in the gateway's integrated memory. Businesses can configure a HTML free surf area and customizable login page that is accessible to all users prior to being logged in. Guests and login users are configured and managed separately. To ensure maximum security against intruder attacks, the D-Link DSA-5100 provides Denial of Service (DoS) protection, Stateful Packet Inspection (SPI) and a built-in NAT firewall.
