Destiny Wireless plc launch Destiny Wireless South Africa

-/28 September, 2004 - The Wi-Fi Technology Forum/-Destiny Wireless plc officially launched Destiny Wireless South Africa this week. Destiny™ will replicate the structures already created in the UK and Australia as Country Agent for Anoto Functionality™. Destiny’s growth and sales plan for 2004 is on target and having South Africa ready for trade in the final quarter of 2004 is yet another milestone that has been achieved.
Parent company Destiny™ Plc have already set high standards for South Africa to live up to, having secured the largest order for Digital Pen and Paper (DP&P) solutions in the world, to date, with the Cobra Group, worth in excess of £2million.

Destiny™ SA will be headed by CEO, Steve Lunn, who is well acquainted with the South African environment, having spent the past five and half years as Managing Director of Global Telematics SA, one of the countries leading suppliers of telematics solutions to the fleet industry. Destiny™ SA will be responsible for further developing relationships forged by the UK with major technology partners such as; Nokia, Logitech, Oracle and HP.

The team will also be establishing relationships with the key GSM networks in South Africa to ensure that Destiny’s™ clients receive the best possible levels of service and the most effective GSM data tariffs to help secure the highest possible return on investment from the Destiny™ solution. Destiny™ SA have decided to approach the market initially by developing various Channel Partners to work in conjunction with the Destiny™ SA team in driving DP&P into a variety of sectors in the South African business community.

“The introduction of digital pen and paper solutions, using Anoto functionality, to South Africa is a very exciting prospect. The technology is very stable and has been proven in other markets, so there is no risk of being the first to adopt a new way of working. In fact whilst the Destiny solution can substantially improve your processes and data gathering capability, the technology is so simple to use, your staff will hardly notice a difference in the way they work. It is also far more cost effective than other forms of remote data collection and therefore will demonstrate a stronger and quicker return on investment”, (Steve Lunn – CEO Destiny SA).

Destiny™ has been receiving enquires from the South African business community since the start of the year and Destiny’s™ success and development has been tracked by a number of large organisations, who are now ready to take on pilots for the pen. Destiny™ Plc’s Senior Management Team in the UK is delighted to be working once again with Steve Lunn, having already enjoyed success together in developing businesses in South Africa. Destiny™ has gained the experience of establishing DP&P businesses in the UK and Australia, introducing this exciting technology into various business sectors. This latest addition to the Destiny™ group will allow Destiny™ Plc to secure it’s original growth plan set out when the company launched in 2002.

“The South African market will compliment our existing portfolio of clients, Channel Partners and Strategic Partners. Being in the same time zone is a significant advantage and this will allow us to assist our South African team in servicing and developing the market, ensuring our clients receive the highest quality and level of service. Developing our business in South Africa further reinforces Destiny™ as an international brand”, (Edward Belgeonne, CEO Destiny Wireless Plc).

Digital Pen and Paper Technology
The Digital Pen functions like any normal pen but enables the user to send, by email, anything they write or draw. The Pen houses a sophisticated array of technology that includes; an infrared camera, an image processor and a wireless Bluetooth™ transceiver. These components work together with the Anoto™ pattern, a series of nearly invisible dots printed on ordinary paper or forms.

As you tick a small box at the bottom of the paper, the information is instantly transmitted via a mobile phone using Bluetooth™ wireless technology to a destination of your choice in approximately 20 seconds. As an alternative, the pen is capable of storing 40 A4 pages of data or approximately 80 A5 pages and this can be downloaded to your PC via a simple pen docking station.
