VeriWave To Conduct VoIP Over Wireless LAN Test

VeriWave To Conduct VoIP Over Wireless LAN Test

VeriWave Selected by Industry Leaders Network World and Network Test to conduct VoIP over wireless LAN test

PORTLAND, ORE. -/4 Oct., 2004 - Wi-Fi Technology News/- VeriWave, Inc., the leading provider of performance analysis tools for wireless local area network (WLAN) devices and networks, today announced that its WaveTest Traffic Generator/Performance Analyzer has been selected to conduct a groundbreaking test assessing the performance of VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) over WLANs.

?Voice over wireless LANs will be the next big project for enterprise network managers," said Keith Shaw, senior editor of product testing at Network World. "Our test with Network Test, a Network World Lab Alliance member, aims to find the best wireless LAN infrastructure that can handle voice traffic."

?We chose the VeriWave WaveTest system because it?s the first commercial test instrument to provide accurate, repeatable time measurements,? said David Newman, president, Network Test Inc., an independent networking consultancy in Westlake Village, Calif., that Network World commissioned to conduct the tests. ?When it comes to VoIP measurements, precise timing is critical.?

Network Test?s methodology for this project assesses audio quality, QoS (Quality of Service) enforcement, and client roaming capabilities. Testers will use VeriWave?s VoIP Analysis Test Suite to measure key values for VoIP traffic, such as R-value (an ITU standard for voice quality measurement), delay, and jitter. In addition, the WaveTest system generates background test traffic, including error injection to simulate real-world traffic conditions. With its support of test automation, the WaveTest system ensures repeatable results and substantially reduces testing time.

The WaveTest Traffic Generator/Performance Analyzer is the industry?s only product devoted to testing the unique features of WLAN devices, providing unprecedented insight into the performance of the network being tested, with high-precision accuracy achieved through the use of a custom MAC. WaveTest is free of the restrictions imposed by NICs, drivers, and operating systems, used in PC-based test systems. With suites of comprehensive, automated tests that focus directly on device performance at the WLAN layers, the WaveTest system allows users to precisely assess the behavior and characteristics of wireless devices and networks.

The WaveTest supports the IEEE 802.11 a/b/g standard, provides comprehensive control of the wireless signal including data rate, channel, transmit power and receive threshold, while allowing control of the WLAN traffic down to the frame level.

Simultaneously, WaveTest generates traffic at layers 3 and 4, emulating hundreds of WLAN clients or access points, while providing detailed, accurate capture and analysis, at full air rate. The test setup is expandable from one to multi-point tests for evaluation of complex scenarios such as Hidden Node, Multiple BSS, and interference, while maintaining microsecond synchronization.

Price and Availability
The WaveTest Traffic Generator/Performance Analyzer and the VoIP Analysis Test Suite are available now. Pricing starts at $28,995.
