Telsis Plays Major Role in Telshine?s Roaming Revolution
-/14 Oct, 2004 - Wi-Fi Technology News/-Telsis switching technology plays a central role in a revolutionary service from Malaysian service provider Telshine that cuts the cost of regional roaming for Malaysian mobile phone users from RM5 (US$1.30) per minute down to just RM1.20 (31cents). Launched today in Kuala Lumpur by Malaysia?s Minister of Energy, Water and Communications, Y.B. Dato? Seri Dr. Lim Keng Yaik, Telshine?s iroam service is available immediately for Malaysians travelling worldwide.
Singapore, Australia and Hong Kong are next in line for coverage as part of a planned rolling expansion across the entire region.
Telshine chose programmable Telsis Ocean fastSSP switches as the delivery platform. Its engineers then used Telsis? NODAL programming language to develop the application.
?Telsis has such a strong reputation for reliability. I know we don?t need to worry about the switch,? says Telshine managing director William K.H Phua. ?It will just keep going and, next to cost, quality of service is going to be one of our key arguments in persuading travelling business customers to use iroam.?
Telshine?s solution is remarkably simple for users. William Phua explains: ?The traveller uses the divert feature on their phone to send all calls to the iroam Gateway. They get off the plane, buy a local SIM card, put it in their telephone and then text the iroam service. Ten to fifteen seconds later, they get a return text, telling them that their temporary number is registered with iroam. Anyone in Malaysia calling the traveller simply dials the traveller?s normal number and gets charged local rate. The traveller can call Malaysia by texting iroam with the number they wish to reach. iroam places the calls and connects both parties ? again at local rate.?
Headquartered in Kuala Lumpur, Telshine Sdn Bhd. is one of Malaysia?s most dynamic technology companies with a diverse portfolio of services across the discounted telephony, video streaming and IT maintenance sectors.
