KIRKLAND, Wash.---/Wi-Fi Technology News/---June 2, 2003-- Wavelink Corporation, a leading provider of mobile infrastructure management software for the enterprise, today announced that the University of Maryland has deployed Wavelink Mobile Manager(TM) to manage its new wireless network. The University launched its ambitious Mobile at Maryland (MAM) wireless services program in response to increasingly mobile students and faculty. With Mobile Manager, engineers can centrally configure and support its campus-wide WLAN access points and devices from a single console.
Through Mobile at Maryland, students, faculty and staff now have wireless access to University resources throughout campus. So far, more than 250 Cisco Aironet wireless access points have been deployed over approximately two-thirds of the campus, including buildings and outdoor areas. Engineers needed an effective way to manage the growing number of access points and mobile devices that are supported on the WLAN. As part of the wireless implementation at the University of Maryland, Mobile Manager provides a comprehensive and flexible management solution for this dynamic environment.
"Mobile Manager has helped us make a campus-wide WLAN a reality. The ability to administer access points from a central location is invaluable in ensuring the security and reliability of a wireless environment," said Leah Goldman, systems engineer at the University of Maryland. "The more users we have, and the more expansive the deployment gets, the more complicated network management becomes. Mobile Manager allows us to continually monitor network health and deploy network-wide upgrades and security solutions in a matter of minutes."
Wavelink Mobile Manager enables network administrators to efficiently deploy, secure and manage wireless networks, including multi-site wireless LAN implementations--all from a central console. Wavelink Mobile Manager is the first and most widely deployed multi-vendor solution for providing effective network management and control over large numbers of access points and mobile devices, allowing IT managers to keep performance up and costs down.
"The University of Maryland is a leader among educational institutions in their efforts to provide students, faculty and staff with the benefits of the latest wireless technology," said David Bullis, Wavelink president and CEO. "By choosing Wavelink, the University is ensuring the success of their wireless strategy, while maintaining the quality and security of the wireless network for their growing base of users."
