Wireless And Broadband Supplier ANADIGICS Announce New GSM/GPRS Modules
ANADIGICS Introduces New Family of 6 mm by 6 mm GSM/GPRS Power Amplifier Modules
-/18 Oct, 2004 - Wi-Fi Technology News/-ANADIGICS, Inc. (Nasdaq: ANAD), a leading supplier of wireless and broadband solutions, announced two new 6 mm by 6 mm GSM/GPRS InGaP HBT power amplifier (PA) modules with integrated power control.
The AWT6166 quad band PA module and AWT6167 dual band PA module use a pin-out, RF engine, and power control scheme that are compatible with ANADIGICS' current generation of 7 mm by 7 mm GSM PAs, reducing the requirement for software changes and minimizing production calibration needs for GSM handset manufacturers. This generational compatibility enables handset manufacturers to reduce time-to-market when migrating to smaller PAs for new platforms.
"The introduction of these new power amplifiers further strengthens our growth momentum in the GSM market," said Dr. Ali Khatibzadeh, Vice President of Wireless Products at ANADIGICS, Inc. "ANADIGICS continues to offer customers exceptional value by combining superior performance and world class customer support. The AWT6166 and AWT6167 PAs have the differentiating feature of maintaining low current consumption even under poor antenna mismatch conditions often encountered with the small built-in antennas in today's GSM phones."
The AWT6166 and AWT6167 PAs reduce printed circuit board space requirements by over 25% compared with the previous generation. These modules exhibit exceptional harmonic performance and feature reduced RF current sensitivity to load mismatch. The AWT6166 and AWT6167 PA modules provide industry-leading levels of efficiency with 58% efficiency for GSM900 and 53% efficiency for DCS. The AWT6166 supports dual, tri, and quad band applications utilizing any combination of the GSM850, GSM900, DCS, and PCS bands. The AWT6167 supports dual band applications utilizing the GSM900 and DCS bands. Both modules are GPRS Class 12 compatible. The PA modules include an internally generated reference voltage for the bias control circuits, eliminating the need for an externally regulated voltage supply. These new PA modules use ANADIGICS' industry-leading InGaP HBT technology, which provides superior performance, reliability, and manufacturing yield compared to AlGaAs technology.
In quantities of 10,000 units, the AWT6166 is priced at $3.20 and the AWT6167 is priced at $3.10. Samples are available now. For additional information, contact ANADIGICS by phone (908) 668-5000 or FAX (908) 668-5132 or visit the Company's Web site at http://www.anadigics.com.
