New Roving Planet Wi-Fi software Helps K-12 Schools and Libraries
Automated Wi-Fi software offering blocks access to Internet content containing visual depictions deemed inappropriate for minors
WESTMINSTER, COLO. -/28 Oct, 2004 - The Wi-Fi Technology Forum/- Roving Planet, the leading provider of scalable Wi-Fi / wireless LAN (WLAN) security and management software solutions, announced the availability of its Content Controller - a new automated wireless LAN software module that helps K-12 schools and libraries better comply with CIPA (Child Information Protection Act) regulations by blocking access to unacceptable Internet content.
Offered as an integrated module to Roving Planet’s scalable wireless LAN management and security software suite, the Content Controller restricts access to unacceptable content such as confidential corporate assets and inappropriate Internet-related material such as pornography or hate sites. In addition, the module utilizes artificial intelligence to provide “on-the-fly” recognition and blocking of unacceptable content, and includes automated methods to track Internet usage across the organization while generating real-time activity reports.
“The Roving Planet Content Controller provides powerful Internet content filtering capabilities that enable schools and libraries to comply with CIPA requirements more thoroughly and effectively, which in turn helps limit their exposure to potential liabilities and loss of various federal funding initiatives such as E-Rate,” stated Greg Mesch, president and CEO, Roving Planet. “This latest offering furthers Roving Planet’s mission of providing scalable software solutions that ensure the security of wireless LANs in a variety of environments ranging from K-12 school districts to corporate campuses and manufacturing facilities.”
Under CIPA, schools and libraries that receive federal funding for discounted telecommunications, Internet access or other IT equipment purchased under the E-rate program or Library Services Technology Act are required to employ a “technology protection measure” (TPM) for all Internet-enabled computers, whether used by minors or adults, that blocks or filters certain visual depictions deemed obscene, pornographic or harmful to minors.
