Cambridge Broadband Announces Enhancements to its Broadband Wireless Access
Cambridge, UK-/24 Nov, 2004 - The Wi-Fi Technology Forum/- Cambridge Broadband announces significant enhancements to the industry-leading broadband wireless access solution, VectaStar. VectaStarTM has already demonstrated its ability to out perform alternative solutions and by launching the new base station and E1(T1) concentrator, Cambridge Broadband continues to move ahead of the market.
The new base station architecture enables operators to terminate both ATM and IP traffic within their core network without the need for additional routing or switching equipment. The new base station configuration gives operators the choice of backhauling their VectaStar network over ATM/SDH, IP or E1 connections.
The main physical change is the inclusion of two extra STM-1 ports on the ATM switch making eight in total. This increased capacity of the base station allows for:
• enhanced backhaul – saving on provision of point-to-point or leased lines
• connection of optional E1 concentrators, enabling circuit services along with ‘drop and insert’ of up to 48 E1 circuits
• ability via the E1 concentrator to offer GSM/3G backhaul – especially aimed at pico- and micro-cell deployments where there is a need for fractional E1/T1
An important feature of the new configuration is the physical separation of the management and network traffic onto different interfaces, which combined with a built in firewall, minimises the possibility of network security breaches.
The new base station units are identical in size to the previous units and are fully compatible with existing devices, which can be upgraded as required.
