    CAMBRIDGE, UK-/1 Dec, 2004 - Wi-Fi Technology News/- Cambridge Broadband and Gemtek Systems are working together to enable broadband wireless operators to add carrier-grade Wi-Fi to their service portfolio. The two companies have signed a commercial and technical collaborative agreement to integrate Gemtek Systems? Wi-Fi technology with Cambridge Broadband?s industry-leading VectaStar fixed wireless access technology.

    Cambridge Broadband will integrate Gemtek Systems? Wi-Fi technology into VectaStar?s subscriber unit, creating a hot-spot-in-a-box with integrated backhaul to allow residential and mobile users to be served cost-effectively. The combination of Gemtek Systems? and Cambridge Broadband?s sophisticated per-user QoS mechanisms facilitates not only a range of tariffing options for data services but also high quality voice-over-Wi-Fi.

    Cambridge Broadband provides a flexible, extendable platform capable of delivering multiple services allowing telecom operators to offer end users IP, VoIP, Ethernet, and E1 /T1. This multi-service capability is further expanded by the addition of Gemtek Systems? carrier-grade Wi-Fi access.

    The commercial framework of the agreement outlines how Gemtek Systems and Cambridge Broadband will adopt a teaming approach, with sales handled by both companies to address customers? specific needs worldwide,

    Delivery of the new Wi-Fi enabled CPEs will commence in the first quarter of 2005 and will be available for existing VectaStar customers or new entrants wishing to offer Wi-Fi services.
