Genesis Microchip Selects Airespace WLAN For Wireless Voice and Data Services

San Jose, Calif.-/7 Dec, 2004 - The Wi-Fi Technology Forum/-Airespace, Inc.® today announced that Genesis Microchip (Nasdaq: GNSS), a world leader in the development of image processing technologies for LCD TVs and other consumer display products, is leveraging the Airespace Wireless Enterprise Platform to deliver Wireless LAN (WLAN) services throughout its corporate headquarters. The Airespace WLAN system is being used to support both voice and data services to Genesis Microchip employees, as well as web access to guests visiting their San Jose, CA facility. With Wireless LAN services, Genesis Microchip has increased overall productivity in their corporate environment and improved customer satisfaction through better communications with company employees.

"We did quite a bit of extensive research into the enterprise WLAN space," said Jim Anderson, Manager of IT at Genesis Microchip. "While several vendors offered a piece of what we needed, only Airespace offered the complete WLAN package - easy to use management tools, best in class security, dynamic radio resource management, and a proven ability to support voice."

The Airespace Wireless Enterprise Platform deployed by Genesis Microchip enables employees to easily access business applications, such as email and file servers, from anywhere in their corporate facility. In addition, the Airespace WLAN provides wireless Internet access to visitors in conference rooms and Genesis Microchip's lobby area. The Airespace WLAN system is also being used to deliver Voice over Wireless LAN (VoWLAN) services to help desk personnel who are equipped with Cisco 7920 Wireless IP phones. This enables them to rapidly respond to customer problems, ensuring the highest level of end user satisfaction.

"We find ourselves recommending Airespace over and over again as enterprises want to deploy converged voice and data services over a wireless infrastructure," said Tom Shaw, president and CEO of Wide Area Management Services, an Airespace partner and systems integrator for Genesis Microchip. "Airespace combines the best WLAN performance with the most complete management tools on the market today, making them perfect for corporate deployments where wireless is essential to business operations."

The Airespace WLAN system deployed at Genesis Microchip consists of Airespace 1200 Access Points supporting simultaneous 802.11 a/b/g services. The Airespace 4000 WLAN Switch provides centralized policy creation and control across these APs, ensuring seamless mobility and easy management. The 4000 WLAN Switch also terminates VPN clients on wireless laptops, enabling users to roam throughout the Airespace WLAN in a secure fashion. With Airespace's "Follow Me VPNs," no re-authentication of VPN sessions is required (even when traversing routed subnets), ensuring secure mobility that does not adversely affect the performance of real-time applications.

"Wireless networks are becoming increasingly vital to traditional corporate environments as more and more business functions are taking advantage of mobility," said Tom Wilburn, vice president of sales, worldwide field operations at Airespace. "When wireless means business, enterprises like Genesis choose Airespace."
