Schools in Texas and California to deploy Secure Wi-Fi from Bluesocket

Schools in Texas and California to deploy Secure Wi-Fi from Bluesocket

BURLINGTON, Mass. -/26 Jan, 2005 - Wi-Fi Technology News/- Bluesocket, Inc., the leading vendor of products that secure and manage wireless networks (WLANs) with 900+ customers worldwide, announced its Wi-Fi wireless gateways have been deployed in two independent school districts with a combined population of some 55,000 students: the Coppell School District of Coppell, Texas, and the San Juan School Unified School District in Carmichael, California.

The San Juan Unified School District serves more than 45,000 students in 80 schools and special education centers, preschools, and adult education programs in Carmichael, California.

Coppell Independent School District, located in the Dallas/Fort Worth area, has a total of 14 schools and three administration facilities with roughly 10,000 students and 1,200 employees.

"For starters, we were looking for a wireless security solution to control rogue access points," said Aaron Bond, Data Networking Specialist for the San Juan School District. "We didn't want the trouble of having to put encryption on every AP, or enter MAC addresses. Also important to us was that management be done from a central site, with policies and configurations replicated to our remote schools, and this is where Bluesocket was a good fit for us. Our ability to protect our network from worms introduced by mobile laptop users who re-log back on was important too." The San Juan Unified school district is rapidly growing its wireless deployments, and expects to have most of its middle and high schools covered by Wi-Fi in the future."

"Our mission is to integrate wireless into each of the schools in order to extend beyond the walls of our community's typical learning experience," said Chad Branum, Director of Technology for Coppell ISD. "Bluesocket manages and maintains the access points we have, as well as provide security to our wireless infrastructure. We chose Bluesocket for its ease of management, its cost-effectiveness and value, its single sign-on interface, performance and response time. It supports our RADIUS authentication requirements and makes it easy for our users to participate in a custom learning environment."
