Bluesocket Announces BlueSecure as its Latest Wi-Fi Security Solution

Bluesocket Announces BlueSecure as its Latest Wi-Fi Security Solution

Bluesocket Announces Real-time Wi-Fi Intrusion Protection against Rogue APs and Client Devices; Latest BlueSecure Release 3.1 adds RF Spectrum Analysis, meets NIST recommendations and complies with DOD Directive for Wireless LANs

BURLINGTON, Mass. -/1 Feb, 2005 - Wi-Fi Technology News/- Bluesocket, Inc., the leading vendor of products that secure and manage Wi-Fi networks, today announced the availability of version 3.1 of its BlueSecure Intrusion Protection System, a dedicated wireless LAN monitoring and intrusion protection system to protect an organization's network from wireless-based attacks.

New features include active containment of rogue devices, advanced RF spectrum analysis, and enhanced reporting that meets government and Department of Defense deployment requirements for Wireless LANs. Additionally, with a new client-server architecture, the system now offers enterprise-class scalability for larger, multi-site deployments.

"Bluesocket's latest release of BlueSecure strengthens its ability to act against RF intrusions and disable rogue devices in real-time," said Richard Webb, wireless analyst at Infonetics Research. "When deployed with Bluesocket's wireless gateways, it provides a secure wireless architecture for interoperable, multi-vendor enterprise WLAN deployments."

"The new BlueSecure release demonstrates Bluesocket's commitment to maintaining our leadership in open, heterogeneous WLANs," said Dave Danielson, Bluesocket VP of Marketing. "By providing Wi-Fi administrators with a comprehensive solution to protect and control their airwaves, we now have a portfolio that meets NIST recommendations and helps ensure compliance with HIPAA and DoD wireless directives. Our customers in healthcare, government and other enterprise sectors will see the immediate value in adding Bluesocket to their wireless deployments."

Key new features of BlueSecure Intrusion Protection System include:

Active Containment of Rogue Devices Providing for active measures to defend against identified rogue APs and malicious client devices, BlueSecure now enables the network administrator to immediately disable a device until it can be physically isolated and removed from the network, preventing both malicious APs and clients from connecting to legitimate devices before they can do damage. With the addition of this functionality, BlueSecure now offers comprehensive detect and protect capabilities for mitigating the threat of wireless rogue devices in both wireless and wired networks.

Advanced RF Spectrum Analysis

BlueSecure now provides for greater visibility of radio frequency (RF) performance and troubleshooting parameters as well as potential threats. It analyzes 802.11 RF traffic, measuring the impact of signal degradation and noise across the 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands. This advanced capability provides real-time graphic displays of RF packet performance against measured signal and noise levels for detection of a variety of malicious and accidental interference sources, as well as hard-to-isolate performance anomalies due to intermittent channel cross-talk, bleed-over, and overloading.

Auditing Industry Policy Compliance

To meet customer needs to automate the auditing of regulatory policy compliance, BlueSecure now generates compliance reports to facilitate the audit of wireless domain's compliance to specific policy requirements. This is particularly helpful to highly regulated organizations in market segments that need to meet stringent industry regulations, e.g. healthcare, government, financial services, utilities, etc. For example, BlueSecure now generates automated reports against key industry regulations, including HIPAA for healthcare organizations and the 8100.2 Directive on deploying wireless within the agencies of the Department of Defense (DoD).

Client-server model for enhanced scalability with new licensing options

The new software now includes client and server components, allowing multiple operators to access security information and administer the system from separate consoles while maintaining continuity. User access is password protected and access is controlled with configurable user profiles. This architecture allows new levels of scalability, where multiple client consoles may view security information from multiple server engines, each supporting up to 250 sensors.

BlueSecure's new licensing model now allows for end-user pricing based on the number of sensors deployed, with 10, 50, and 100 sensor pricing. This ensures a lower cost of initial deployment for smaller or pilot wireless deployments, while allowing support for large enterprise WLAN deployments, with monitoring scalability extending to thousands of sensors.

Pricing and Availability

BlueSecure Intrusion Protection System Version 3.1 is available immediately from Bluesocket's authorized partners and resellers/VARs. The 802.11 b/a/g

RF Sensor is priced at $695, and the BlueSecure Server starts at $2,250.

Attractive Wireless Gateway and RF Sensor bundles are also available starting at $7,750.
