NETGEAR Wins Design Award For Networking Routers, Switches, and Gateways

NETGEAR® Wins Prestigious GOOD DESIGN™ Award for Innovation in Product Design; Product Enclosure for Networking Routers, Switches, and Gateways is Honored

SANTA CLARA, Calif. -/22 Feb, 2005 - The Wi-Fi Technology Forum/- NETGEAR®, Inc. (Nasdaq: NTGR), a worldwide provider of technologically advanced, branded networking products, today announced it has received a 2004 GOOD DESIGN™ Award for its elegant line of wireless and wired networking devices. The GOOD DESIGN program is organized by The Chicago Athenaeum: Museum of Architecture and Design, the only museum of architecture and design in the United States. NETGEAR’s design for networking devices received the award in the program’s electronics category.
“The NETGEAR team is honored to have received this accolade from such a venerable institution,” said Patrick Lo, founder and CEO of NETGEAR. “It’s always easy to distinguish a NETGEAR product from other networking devices. Our innovative line of wired and wireless routers, switches, and gateways stand out not only in terms of reliability and ease-of-use, but also for their sleek and stylish designs. We work to incorporate our customers’ comments on product design, and are delighted to have been recognized for this effort.”

The GOOD DESIGN Award is the most coveted design prize for the most innovative and advanced industrial design produced worldwide. Since 1950, the GOOD DESIGN program has bestowed international recognition upon designers and manufacturers for advancing new and innovative product concepts and originality, and for stretching the envelope beyond what is considered standard product and consumer design.

The series of NETGEAR’s consumer and business-class devices, designed in conjunction with San Francisco-based newdealdesign LLC (http://www.newdealdesign.com), comprises enclosures for more than a dozen products, including wireless gateways and routers such as the Double 108 Mbps Wireless Firewall Router (WGU624), as well as wired gateways and switches such as the 8 Port Gigabit Desktop Switch (GS608). The devices are distinctive for their smooth interface, rounded corners, low profile, and lightly textured white surface, with a side-wraparound overlay label in shiny chrome or matte white.

The jury for the 2004 GOOD DESIGN™ Award was composed of corporate executives, international diplomats, and professionals in the design and art industry. They based their decisions on criteria such as innovation, form, materials, construction, concept, function, utility, product appearance and aesthetic appeal. More information on the awards is at:
