NETGEAR announces ProSafe Wi-Fi 802.11g Dual Band Access Point (WAG302)

Ultra-Secure ProSafe™ Dual Band Wireless Access Point (WAG302) Supports 802.11a/b/g Standards, Provides Enterprise-Class Feature Set Including AutoCell RF Management, Power-Over-Ethernet, and Wireless Distribution System for Bridging and Repeater Modes

SANTA CLARA, Calif. -/15 March, 2005 - The Wi-Fi Technology Forum/- NETGEAR®, Inc., (Nasdaq: NTGR) a worldwide provider of technologically advanced, branded networking products, announced the availability of the value-packed enterprise-class ProSafe Dual Band Wireless Access Point (WAG302), a feature-rich 802.11a/g-compliant wireless access point that simultaneously supports both 5 Ghz and 2.4 GHz 54 Mbps radio transmissions.

The 802.11i-ready access point incorporates advanced security and management features including Wi-Fi Protected Access (WPA) and IEEE 802.3af integrated Power-over-Ethernet (PoE).

The ProSafe Dual Band Wireless Access Point, which supports data rates of up to 108 Mbps in turbo mode on both 802.11a and 802.11g bands for greatly enhanced data speeds and improved session persistence, features two powerful detachable 5 dBi antennas and is Plenum-rated for placement above drop-down ceilings and under raised floors. While AutoCell™ RF management technology provides optimum WLAN performance in high-density, high RF interference environments, the wireless access point also improves the security of the network infrastructure with the most advanced and comprehensive set of authentication and encryption security capabilities available.

“The ProSafe Dual Band Wireless Access Point is our most advanced access point to date, delivering robust advanced enterprise-class functionality and security feature sets at a price point that is attractive to the mid-market,” explained Lianne Caetano, Product Line Manager – Business Wireless and Security Products. “The ability to simultaneously support both 802.11a and 802.11g infrastructures is becoming increasingly important to organizations that require the increased network bandwidth capabilities that the 5 GHz offers, while at the same time continuing to support existing 802.11b/g clients and devices. The integrated PoE support and detachable high-gain antennas, coupled with the AutoCell technology, make it easy and cost-effective for medium-size organizations to deploy an efficient, high-performance wireless network. ”

The NETGEAR ProSafe Dual Band Wireless Access Point (WAG302) is fully compatible with 802.11a, 802.11b, 802.11g and Super G™ devices, and is capable of supporting up to 128 simultaneous wireless clients. The WAG302 Access Point supports WDS for bridging and repeater modes and can even be configured to function simultaneously as a bridge and access point. AutoCell cognitive RF management technology enables the WAG302 Access Point to dynamically optimize itself by intelligently choosing channels and adjusting transmit power levels to ensure coverage and avoid interference.

The WAG302 Access Point provides a comprehensive and advanced security feature set including: WPA2 Enterprise, 40/64- and 128/154-bit WEP shared key encryption, advanced AES 256-bit encryption, 802.1x RADIUS server authentication, TKIP dynamic key assignment, MAC address access control lists, SSID suppression, rogue access point detection and notification, SSL and SSH secure management interfaces, and intra-cell blocking to prevent client-to-client snooping. NETGEAR’s convenient browser-based SmartWizard™ Installation Assistant ensures ease-of-configuration and remote management.

To enhance the flexibility of deployment in diverse networking environments, the WAG302 Access Point is compatible with NETGEAR’s ProSafe line of 2.4 GHz high-gain indoor and outdoor antennas. For management of multiple access points in dense environments, the WAG302 Access Point is optimized for use with the ProSafe Network Management Software (NMS100), NETGEAR’s easy-to-use SNMP-based network monitoring and management solution. NETGEAR’s ProSafe Dual Band Wireless Access Point is backed by a three-year warranty and 24/7 technical support, and is available via leading direct marketers, e-commerce sites, and value-added resellers at a list prices of $445.
