Former BellSouth CTO and GSMA Chairman Joins BelAir Board of Directors
Scott Fox to Help Guide Company’s Wireless Multi-service Architecture Strategy
Kanata, Ontario -/5 April, 2005 - Wi-Fi Technology Forum/-BelAir Networks, the first company to offer scalable wide-area wireless broadband solutions for metro-scale deployments, announced that telecommunications industry veteran and wireless expert, Scott Fox, has been named to the BelAir Networks Board of Directors. As a member of the BelAir Board, Mr. Fox will work with the management team to guide the implementation of BelAir’s vision for a Wireless Multi-service Architecture.
Mr. Fox was formerly Chairman of the Board of the GSM Association from 2000 to 2002. The GSM Association is the world’s leading wireless industry body, consisting of 650 second and third generation mobile operators, satellite operators, and more than 150 key manufacturers and suppliers to the wireless industry. The Association's members provide mobile services to nearly 1.25 billion customers across more than 210 countries and territories around the world. As Chairman, he was responsible for improving the organizational efficiency and strategic focus of the association. He also guided the organization on critical standards issues in order to create member consensus and move the industry forward.
“I was drawn to BelAir Networks by their mesh architecture, which offers an innovative and practical way to implement backhaul for urban wireless deployments. Backhaul is a key pain point for service providers and BelAir’s approach is relevant for many different access technologies including GSM, W-CDMA and EVDO as well as Wi-Fi and WiMAX,” said Mr. Fox. “The company’s Wireless Multi-service Architecture offers a compelling vision of how next generation broadband wireless services can be profitably delivered to cities and businesses.”
During his 25+ year career, Mr. Fox has held several executive management positions within the wireless industry and guided the growth of several successful startups including Wireless Facilities, Inc. (Nasdaq: WFII) a global leader in telecommunications outsourcing. Scott was Group President at WFI and helped lead them to a successful IPO in 1999. Prior to WFI, Mr. Fox was Vice-President, strategy, and CTO for BellSouth (NYSE: BLS) and Vice President of Wireless Engineering at MCI (Nasdaq: MCIP). Mr. Fox is currently the Chairman and CEO of Global View Partners, Inc (GVP), a privately-held investment, M&A, and strategic consulting company for the wireless industry.
“Scott has been a strong and positive contributor in the GSM Association and he exhibited superb technical expertise and industry leadership while chairing the organization,” stated Rob Conway, CEO and Member of the Board, GSM Association. “I believe that Scott would be a tremendous asset for any organization given his proven talents.”
“Scott is a welcome addition to our Board of Directors,” said Bernard Herscovich, President and CEO of BelAir Networks. “His knowledge of the wireless industry, his extensive executive relationships, and his experience nurturing and developing emerging technologies, business models, and companies make him an ideal fit with our team who have developed and introduced BelAir’s unique and powerful wireless networking technology to the market. I look forward to working with him as we deliver on our vision for broadband wireless networks.”
