Gemtek Announces New Synergy Products For Wi-Fi Hotspots

Gemtek Systems Europe announces its new Synergy product line for Wi-Fi public wireless access

Amsterdam-/14 April, 2005 - Wi-Fi Technology Forum/- The new Synergy product line continues fulfilling Gemtek Systems' vision of ubiquitous, secure and cost effective wireless access infrastructures for the public operators and service providers. The Synergy product line is based on a powerful and flexible operating system, common to all its components, seamlessly manageable from a centralised position through the Gemtek Management System (GMS).
Its versatility makes Synergy product line the appropriate answer to telecom operators' future needs to build an all IP infrastructure to transport value adding and multimedia services.

The first element of Synergy product line will be the enhanced Hot-Spot-In-a-Box P-565 a scalable 5-in-1 device that sets new standards in price-performance for public WLAN operators due to its Remote Configuration Management and Auto provisioning features.

The P-565 device representing exceptional value for money by combining a Wi-Fi Access Point, an Access Controller, an IP router, a VPN gateway for Virtual Private Networks and a managed 4-port 10/100 Ethernet LAN switch into a single compact and tamper-proof unit.

The P-565 54Mbit/s Hotspot-in-a-Box supports the IEEE 802.11b+g+a standard, up to 250 users, with 16 VLANs and will be available through the Gemtek Systems Europe reseller channel from July 2005. The recommended retail price is EUR 699 including the GMS client for remote configuration management and auto provisioning.

The Synergy product line will also include the P-785, outdoor Access Point and backbone infrastructure with its dual radio, dual band capability as well as an industry standard series of Access Contollers, Power over Ethernet (PoE) switches and a single box solution combining Access Controller and PoE switch. The key components of the new Synergy product line will offer a common platform to telecom operators and a uniform view of their Wi-Fi infrastructure.

The GMS Auto provisioning feature of the Synergy product line enables network providers to send equipment directly to the locations with minimal technical assistance. After installing the product on a network connection, on first initialization the product will retrieve the latest firmware and its location/WISP specific configuration details automatically. With the use of a Heartbeat system the unit will stay in touch with the Network Management System and share valuable data about the network and WLAN usage.
Alerts can be set to notify the systems administrator of any issues in its network, communicated by SMS or Email. The system can be centrally managed and with its "tree" file structure it enables a very user-friendly way of managing and configuring a Hotspots - providing a complete, feature rich solution package that is ideally suited for small to medium-sized hotspot locations. Software options allow operators to scale their network and to provide Wireless LAN Switching applications for public, private, and hybrid networks.

Gemtek Systems Europe Synergy product line supports various AAA methods such as web browser-based access (UAM), 802.1x/EAP, RADIUS, Smart Clients, and MAC authentication simultaneously. This device is compatible with the roaming recommendations of the Wi-Fi Alliance (WISPr), the GSM Association and supports VoiP and QoS. It also supports the latest developments in security standards such as WPA2 with hardware acceleration.

The Synergy product line has been designed to be compatible with a wide variety of backend systems (OSS/BSS). Furthermore, through it's support for powerful user-friendly features, hotspot end-users now benefit from greatly improved ease of use; this includes not having to make changes to their fixed corporate IP address settings when working at the public hotspot, from the system's ability to meet all their company's security requirements using VPN client pass-through over PPTP or IPsec and from being able to send e-mails with ease thanks to SMTP redirection.

In addition to its cost-effectiveness advanced security, scalability and user-friendly feature-set, as one would expect in a carrier-grade product, the Synergy product line offers auto provisioning, full remote configuration, performance monitoring, and fault management over secure protocols. As a result, the Synergy product line makes small and large scale networks easy to operate and manage - contributing directly to the Carrier's bottom line through low ongoing Total Cost of Ownership (TCO).
