Boingo To Offer In-Flight Wi-Fi Network Roaming For Business Travelers

Company debuts in-flight Wi-Fi roaming in partnership with Connexion by Boeing SM;
first to offer end-to-end Wi-Fi network for business travelers

SANTA MONICA, Calif. -/13 May, 2005 - Wi-Fi Technology Forum/- Boingo Wireless announced the availability of in-flight Wi-Fi roaming, making the company the first to offer wireless data access covering all segments of a business trip – including hotels, restaurants, airports and now in-flight.
The expanded wireless roaming coverage is a result of an agreement with Connexion by Boeing that integrates all of the flights equipped with the company’s high-speed Internet and data service into the Boingo® Roaming System.

With access to this complete network, business travelers can now use their Boingo account to access more than 17,000 hotspots at restaurants, hotels and airports as well as an expanding number of International – and soon U.S. domestic – flights.

Founded in 2003, Bitbuzz is the only Irish-owned Wi-Fi service provider. The company is recognized as being at the forefront of Wi-Fi development, providing a user friendly, well-managed service in multiple types of public venues.

Boingo also partners with service providers to allow their users to access these hot spots through its Boingo Platform Services program. The program provides partners with access to this network, customized client software, and a full suite of back-office billing, roaming, mediation and clearinghouse services to allow them to offer their own Wi-Fi service quickly and cost effectively. To date, the company has announced Platform Services partnerships with Earthlink, Fiberlink, BT Infonet Services Corp., MCI, and Telecom Italia.

“For the power user on a business trip, having comprehensive Wi-Fi access has meant the hassle of maintaining accounts with a number of Wi-Fi providers,” said Colby Goff, vice president of network strategy for Boingo. “This agreement with Connexion by Boeing highlights the convenience and cost-effectiveness of roaming in a way that will help business travelers to minimize their travel downtime.”

Boingo wireless access is now offered on Connexion by Boeing-equipped flights from Lufthansa, Scandinavian Airlines System (SAS), Japan Airlines, and ANA and Singapore Airlines. In addition, China Airlines, Korean Air, Asiana and El Al Israeli Airlines have also indicated their plans to begin offering the service to their passengers this year.

The Boingo Roaming System offers business travelers the best choice of Wi-Fi hotspots by combining the locations of more than 90 leading Wi-Fi operators into one worldwide network, and allowing the user to roam onto any of these locations with a single subscription using Boingo’s Wi-Fi client software.
