Africa?s First CDMA2000-Based NGN To Be Installed By ZTE In Angola
ZTE ADVANCES AFRICAN TELECOMMUNICATIONS WITH FIRST CDMA2000-BASED FIXED NEXT GENERATION NETWORK (NGN)
Shenzhen: 000063, Hong Kong: 0763-/July 27, 2005 - Wi-Fi Technology News/- following an agreement announced today with leading fixed-line operator Mundo Startel. Under the agreement, ZTE, China?s largest listed telecommunications manufacturer and leading wireless solutions provider, will be the sole provider of the network.
The new network will bring more advanced telecommunications services, including voice, data and wireless broadband, to eight states across Angola. It will be the first time that ZTE installs an NGN based on an IP platform with CDMA2000 1x and EV-DO technology.
?Angola?s vast landscape and low population density has been one of the major challenges to the successful vendor. ZTE was able to present a cost-effective, tailor-made network which, combined with the Corporation?s strong R&D capability and leadership in NGN technology, offered the perfect solution. ZTE?s CDMA2000-based NGN features large volume, complete network coverage, low construction cost and high flexibility for future expansion. The contract in Angola follows global success for ZTE?s NGN solutions: the Corporation has won NGN contracts in Hong Kong, the Philippines, and Pakistan.
Africa is an important market for ZTE: the Corporation?s products have already been deployed in more than 20 countries, including Egypt, Nigeria, Tunisia, Kenya, Zambia, Algeria, and Ethiopia.

About Mundo Startel: Mundo Startel has got the license to roll out fixed-line telecommunications network in Angola. It plans to build a nationwide fixed-line network in five years. Mundo Startel intends to increase its market share up to 40% by 2010.
