Digital Technology Could Cut Admin Time For Emergency Services

-/August 18, 2005 - Wi-Fi Technology News/-Destiny™, a world leader in the delivery of Digital Pen and Paper (DP&P) solutions, has appointed Datapulse as a partner to help drive DP&P adoption across the UK emergency services.
Working together, Destiny and Datapulse will develop and market a range of DP&P solutions for emergency service organisations, with the goal of dramatically reducing the time that workers – including police officers, paramedics and fire fighters – spend on routine administration associated with document creation, manual data entry and forms processing.

Destiny DP&P solutions use Anoto™ Functionality to help improve productivity, reduce costs and drive operational efficiency. Target emergency service applications for DP&P could include:

• Improving operational efficiency for paramedics who currently need to complete the detailed OPS001 form to transfer patients and their information to receiving hospitals – using DP&P technology, data can be immediately transferred at the time of handover, reducing errors and inconsistencies and freeing up valuable paramedic time

• Helping police to improve productivity by supporting the completion of tickets, statements and ‘stop and search’ records (in line with recommendation 61 of the Stephen Lawrence Inquiry Report) ensuring less police time is spent on administration and more time ‘on the beat’

• Eliminating the need for manual data re-entry of fire rescue service reports, significantly reducing the time and costs associated with essential paperwork

“Calculations based on existing trials in the public sector show that processing costs for DP&P-enabled applications are up to 75 per cent less than for traditional paper-based forms and processes. That’s why DP&P technology is such an attractive option for emergency service organisations that are all constantly having to balance service delivery with their available budgets,” commented Alick Smith, Operations Director for Datapulse Professional Services. “Having assessed the market, it was clear that only Destiny could provide us with the combination of pen hardware expertise, software development capability and services and hosting support we knew would be essential in the development and delivery of effective DP&P solutions.”

“Datapulse has a track record of success in the emergency service sector, and we’re delighted to add them to Destiny’s growing portfolio of DP&P partners that are working to speed the adoption of DP&P technology across a number of key markets,” commented Edward Belgeonne, Group CEO at Destiny Wireless. “Adding DP&P technology to the Datapulse portfolio makes excellent sense, and with the support of a proven DP&P leader such as Destiny, Datapulse will be ideally positioned to develop and deliver fast-track solutions for organisations in the emergency services sector.”

Datapulse’s Professional Services have the expertise to integrate data sent from the digital pen with legacy systems and back-office databases. The benefits of the solution are immense: 100 per cent data accuracy, real-time data delivery to multiple outlets, increased data availability, cleaner and faster communication channels, which all have a profound effect on both monetary and time costs, resulting in a highly efficient workforce.
