3Com Introduces New Voice Over Internet Protocol (VoIP) Applications

3Com Introduces New Voice Over Internet Protocol (VoIP) Applications

3Com Teams with Ingate System' Technology to Deliver New Convergence Applications that Help Companies Increase Productivity, Lower Costs

VOICECON FALL 2005, SAN DIEGO -/August 30, 2005 - Wi-Fi Technology News/- 3Com Corporation introduced a new set of voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) applications for large enterprises that enable remote users to gain secure access to a company's converged communication network.

By deploying the new 3Com? IP Telecommuting module, enterprises are able to increase employee productivity, reduce telecom costs and build stronger customer interactions, even if employees are working from home, on the road, or from a small branch office.

"The 3Com IP Telecommuting module provides a critical capability for businesses with remote workers, satellite offices, even customers and partners who need reliable access to convergence communication applications including ? but not limited to ? IP telephony," said Denis Aull, 3Com vice president and general manager, Convergence Business unit. "Existing 3Com IP telephony system customers looking to add remote access capabilities will benefit from secure, converged seamless interoperability, a tremendous asset for any large enterprise today."

Like all 3Com products, the new 3Com IP Telecommuting module is open and standards based, leveraging Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) to provide the flexibility, interoperability and ease-of-use needed in a truly converged environment.

"3Com and Ingate Systems are addressing an important need for enterprises to provide an open standards-based telecommuting solution which improves business processes," said Zeus Kerravala, vice president of enterprise infrastructure for The Yankee Group. "It is imperative today that enterprises find a way to help their associates who telecommute and travel a great deal to remain productive while accessing their communication applications in a secure, converged fashion."

Benefits of Secure, Converged IP Telecommuting Solution

The 3Com IP Telecommuting module significantly enhances the mobility of employees by enabling the use of corporate IP telephony applications, such as IP conferencing, IP messaging, IP contact center and other communication services from most any location outside the LAN. No longer tethered to their office, users leveraging the 3Com IP Telecommuting module can make calls through the 3Com IP telephony system from anywhere ? including a broadband-enabled airports, hotels and hospitals ? as long as there's access to an Internet connection.

Mobile and remote users can also manage incoming calls by redirecting their office phone to a mobile phone, hotel room or even a second or third office used by those who are "road warriors." This application also enables enterprises to deploy home agents of corporate contact centers.

3Com has agreed to source Ingate? Systems' technology as part of its 3Com IP Telecommuting module. Using Ingate's technology, the 3Com IP Telecommuting module solves the far-end Network Address Translation (NAT) traversal issues inherent in SIP communications. Since NAT hides private IP addresses from the public Internet, 3Com IP Telecommuting module enables seamless secure connectivity by matching SIP communications originating from outside a company with the appropriate internal IP address.

"Being chosen by 3Com to provide the far-end NAT traversal solution for the 3Com IP Telecommuting validates Ingate's technology as the best solution for enterprise remote connectivity," said Ingate Systems Chief Executive Officer Olle Westerberg. "Ingate Firewall? and Ingate SIParator? products offer businesses a proven solution for SIP-enabling the enterprise and for IP-PBXs. Through this arrangement Ingate brings 3Com an important but small portion of its full traversal technology."

    Pricing and Availability

The 3Com IP Telecommuting module is available now and consists of all applicable software and licenses for concurrent users. A module for 100 concurrent remote users has a list price of $80 per user. More information can be found on the 3Com Convergence and IP telephony product information page located at http://www.3com.com/voip/. 3Com sells and markets networking hardware and other 3Com-branded products through a network of authorized system integrators and channel partners worldwide.
