BT Launches EVLAN Ethernet Virtual Private LAN Service

BT Launches EVLAN Ethernet Virtual Private LAN Service

-/September 13, 2005 - Wi-Fi Technology News/-BT announced today that it has launched its first Ethernet Virtual Private LAN Service called BT EVLAN. This development is a natural extension to BT?s existing comprehensive range of Ethernet services designed for businesses needing greater resilience, capacity and flexibility from their networks, and is one of the first services to be launched as part of BT?s 21CN initiative.

The new BT EVLAN service which is highly flexible and fully managed delivers assured quality at high speeds between multiple sites in a metro area. It will initially only be available in the London area but will be rolled-out to other UK metro areas later this year.

Martin Maters, general manager of bandwidth and Ethernet services at BT Global Services, said: ?BT has been offering Ethernet solutions in the UK for 20 years and the launch of BT EVLAN once again shows our commitment to innovation in this sector. Ethernet is also at the heart of our 21st century network, or 21CN. As the digital networked economy takes hold demands and pressures on organisations increases and they need to be more agile. Ethernet delivers them the right environment to do this in plus its faster connections mean it?s a vital ingredient for critical business transactions.?

Businesses using BT EVLAN will have secure any-to-any Ethernet connectivity between multiple sites in a single metro area thereby avoiding the need to build expensive and inflexible networks. The advantage for linked users is that information and communications technology will flow seamlessly as on a single LAN. The service also delivers the scalability and predictability required by growing businesses with demanding communications needs. With access speeds from 10, 100 and 1000Mb it also offers companies excellent bandwidth flexibility which coupled with an open IP environment means companies can also opt to manage their own IP layer.
