Berkeley Updates Caterpillar Handheld WLAN Power Analyzer





METUCHEN, New Jersey. -/October 10, 2005 - Wi-Fi Technology News/-Berkeley Varitronics Systems, Inc. updates and will premiere their new Caterpillar™ at WiMAX World in October. Caterpillar™ Wi-Fi frequency & power analyzer now includes USB connectivity for 2.4 GHz and 5GHz monitoring, recording and playback via PC.
Custom Windows® software allows for realtime, detailed X-Y graphing of dBm, user threshold settings and live or recorded playback (play, pause, rewind, fast forward, etc.) similar to DVR control. When connected to a laptop, Caterpillar™ becomes a technician’s portable tool for individual AP/NIC analysis and verification within any WiMAX network allowing measurements to be studied on the spot or later for future network planning. Caterpillar™ will be premiered at WiMAX World Conference & Exposition 2005 (BVS booth 406A) in Boston on October 26th and retails for $750 with optional PC software selling for $250. Caterpillar™ update ships in Q4 of 2005.


Caterpillar™ is a low-cost, handheld sweeping analyzer designed for 802.11(b,a,g) Wi-Fi & WiMAX frequency & power measurements. The receiver attaches directly to an Access Point, bridger or Network Interface Card via the included SMA antenna connection kit. Caterpillar™ has a unique triggering capability to measure both 2.4 and 5 GHz frequency bands to verify & analyze output packet power levels, report their channel and frequency and create an 802.11 power profile. Technicians can measure power from an array of 802.11 network gear as well as many wireless devices and standards including WiMAX, Bluetooth, Zigbee™, cordless phones, VoIP, video transmitters, etc.

Other features include a built-in backlit display, simple keypad menu navigation and removable, rechargeable Ni-MH batteries for true portability. The original Caterpillar™ began shipping last month and is available now for $750.
