BT Launches MobileXpress Wi-Fi And Wireless Internet Access

Managed service offering takes the “office” out of the office.

-/October 24, 2005 - Wi-Fi Technology News/-BT announced the launch of MobileXpress™, a new flagship flexible working solution that provides fully secure access to corporate networks for remote users, including employees, business partners or customers. Mobile Xpress is an end-to-end managed service that allows business users to access their applications remotely.
MobileXpress brings together into a single simple solution multiple BT and BT Infonet remote working service offerings. Users can easily connect from over 150 countries worldwide through straightforward client software- using only one user id and password - whether they are mobile, teleworking or even flying.

Wireless connectivity ranges from over 19,000 wireless LAN (Wi-Fi) hotspots (extending to more than 30,000 hotspots worldwide in 2006) to in-flight wireless to 3G mobile services. Fixed line broadband and dial-up access complement the broad range of access capabilities, while layered security options ensure that once connected, users have fully secure and reliable access to corporate information.

Aaron McCormack, VP Global Products, BT Global Services said: “With the number of remote office locations and mobile professionals growing exponentially, being able to provide remote access to the corporate network has become fundamental to success in today’s global economy. MobileXpress is an integral part of BT’s vision for enabling mobility within the digital networked economy, providing the industry with a powerful remote working product that combines functionality and accessibility with complete simplicity.”

Luke Dallafior, VP of Communications Solutions, BT Infonet said: “The growing business use of internet access and the proliferation of mobile technologies have led to a significant surge in demand for flexible working conditions. Combining the best features of some industry-leading solutions, MobileXpress from BT gives organisations the ability to provide greater support for flexible working, offering ease of use, increased productivity and secure connectivity.”

"Mobile working includes home working, working from branch offices and client sites, as well as campus roaming and on-the-road activities. Ovum believes that the ability to support the application and service needs of mobile workers across all these different contexts will be a key source of differentiation for suppliers," said Jeremy Green, Principal Analyst Enterprise Mobility at Ovum.

According to a recent study by IDC More than 50% of all employees in Western Europe are potential mobile workers. The European Commission itself has endorsed the growth of flexible working, implementing a series of strategies and policies in its eEurope 2005 initiative designed to create the conditions for change in existing jobs, generate new working methods, and allow greater flexibility in the workplace .
