Aepona Announces Full Complement of JAVA Support

Telecommunications Software Firm Works with Mobicents To Develop Open Source Parlay Resource Adapters for JAIN-SLEE

Belfast, -/October 27, 2005 - Wi-Fi Technology News/- Aepona, the developer of enabling software for telecoms service delivery, has announced a further key open source initiative to support JAVA developers in the telecommunications world.
In order to complement the company’s provision of OSA-Parlay adapters for carriers with J2EE and J2SE service delivery environments, the company has announced it is working with open source developer Mobicents to provide a Parlay Resource Adapter for JAIN-SLEE.

JAIN-SLEE is primarily designed to support the rapid development of robust telecommunications applications in Java. As a result, many operators who have investigated JAIN-SLEE environments can now avail of OSA-Parlay compliant APIs into telecommunications resources. Aepona’s Causeway product is one of the most pervasive OSA-Parlay compliant service enablement suites in use by operators worldwide. As a result, Aepona has entered into partnership with the open source organisation, Mobicents, to develop a fully Parlay-compliant Resource Adapter for JAIN-SLEE application servers.

For telecommunications operators that have standardised on JAVA as an application environment this is very significant. With a full complement of standards-compliant Java adapters in place these operators can reap all the advantages that a Parlay-compliant gateway brings – such as vendor independence, rapid service creation and roll-out, and access to third party applications, ready-made. In addition, operators can migrate smoothly to next generation intelligent network environments freed from vendor lock-in.

According to Kieran Dalton, Aepona’s CTO, “Aepona is working in partnership with Mobicents, and providing developer resource and source contribution to this key initiative, thereby helping to create a bridgehead between the JAIN-SLEE and Parlay worlds. In short, we will create a further extension to a standards-based unified environment for next generation networks. It also means that nearly all operators worldwide will be able to avail of Aepona Causeway technology – regardless of the application delivery environment they have chosen. This shows Aepona’s commitment to a standards based approach while further extending the applicability of our market leading product suite.”

According to Ivelin Ivanov, founder of Mobicents, "this is a very exciting announcement. Aepona is recognised as a leading player in standards-based enabling technology and its software has been embraced by top tier operators across the globe. What Mobicents and Aepona are now focused on is providing additional standards-based components that will further extend the resources that will be exposed by the Parlay gateway – using the standards defined by both JAIN-SLEE and Parlay worlds. I am confident that the leading carriers worldwide will applaud this initiative and I am looking forward to working with Aepona on it."

Aepona and Mobicents are working to announce availability of the JAIN SLEE Parlay Resource Adapter in Q1 2006.
