Cingular Fights Against Websites That Sell Wireless Phone Records

ATLANTA, -/January 26, 2006 - Wi-Fi Technology News/-Cingular Wireless has won another battle in its fight against websites that offer cell phone records for sale. The U.S. District Court in Atlanta, GA, has approved a Consent Temporary Restraining Order that halts the ability of eFindOutTheTruth.com to obtain and sell Cingular customer records.

Among other things, the Order prohibits employees and agents of eFindOutTheTruth.com from using the name or identity of any Cingular employee or customer for any purpose.

Last month, Cingular filed a civil lawsuit alleging that eFindOutTheTruth.com unlawfully obtained and disseminated Cingular customer records. For example, Cingular's lawsuit claims that eFindOutTheTruth.com or its agents dishonestly posed as Cingular customers and employees in order to gain access to customer account information.

"Data brokers should know that Cingular will persist in its aggressive fight to protect customer privacy," said Joaquin Carbonell, Executive Vice President and General Counsel, Cingular Wireless. "We will continue this battle in the courts, by working with law enforcement, and by supporting the enactment of tough new laws that put an end to Cell Phone Records Ripoffs."

Earlier this month, Cingular obtained a Temporary Restraining Order against Data Find Solutions, Inc. and 1st Source Information Specialists, Inc. Cingular believes that Data Find Solutions, Inc. previously owned and operated several websites that advertise the sale of phone records, including locatecell.com and celltolls.com, and that 1st Source Information Specialists, Inc. currently owns and operates these websites.
