ROC-net Launches Wi-Fi Access In Northern Illinois

ROCKFORD, IL -/January 30, 2006 - Wi-Fi Technology News/- ROC-net Services, a co-operation of local private businesses providing Internet connectivity and other high tech solutions in Northern Illinois, announces the launch of Wi-Fi access throughout an 8-square-mile radius of downtown Rockford as just the first step in a much wider initiative to provide broadband services throughout a 10-county area in Northern Illinois.

The announcement was made during a press conference featuring Illinois Senator Dick Durbin, a representative from Illinois Senator Barack Obama's office, Congressman Don Manzullo, and Illinois Lt. Governor Pat Quinn on January 30th at Fridh Corporation's Stewart Square building, 308 W. State Street in Rockford, Illinois, 60 miles west of Chicago.

ROC-net Services has installed new "cellular-style" base stations throughout the 8-square-mile radius emanating outward from downtown Rockford, providing both outdoor and indoor wireless Internet coverage. The towers are stationed on top of buildings owned by Fridh Corporation, a Northern Illinois real estate development firm, as well as on top of EIGERlab, a Rockford facility housing advanced manufacturing technology firms.

The impressive technological development means businesses and individuals within the coverage area will be able to have fixed and mobile wireless access.

"This is just a starting point. We're going to expand the Wi-Fi coverage area just as fast as we can by also expanding the fiber optic ring throughout Northern Illinois," John Avampato, ROC-net's CEO, explained.

Companies in the Northern Illinois region like Swedish American Health System and Freeport Health Network are already hooked up, so are businesses like accounting firm, Lindgren, Callihan and Van Osdel, and manufacturer, Superior Joining Technologies.
