CommunicAsia In Singapore Most Influential Telecoms Event In Asia

Neighbouring high-profile events to ensure quality and quantity of visitors to exhibition

-/March 17, 2006 - Wi-Fi Technology News/- Singapore is set to play host to arguably the most influential and largest group of telecommunications professionals ever gathered together in Asia, when CommunicAsia opens for business on June 20-23 – barely three months away.

While bookings and travel commitments for the three main events – CommunicAsia, BroadcastAsia and EnterpriseIT – continue to show strong growth, two other events will draw senior representation from across Asia and beyond. They are the imbX Ministerial Forum and the Southeast Asia Information and Communication Technologies Forum.

Following the successful 2005 inaugural Ministerial Forum on ICT, the second Ministerial Forum (which is by invitation only) will take place from 19-20 June 2006 as part of the infocomm media business exchange (imbX) series of programmes. Themed “Next Generation Networks (NGN) – Opportunity & Challenges for Governments”, discussions by Asian ministers for information, communication and media will centre around NGN’s definition and impact, multiple government's roles, and regulatory challenges.

The Euro Southeast Asia 2006 Information & Communication Technologies Forum, is financed by the European Commission and organised with the support of the ssociation of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN). The key objectives of EUSEA 2006 are to offer an open business platform between key stakeholders from Europe and Southeast Asia, promote a policy and regulatory dialogue on ICT, reinforce the realization of the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) objectives in Southeast Asia, develop ICT research co-operation projects between Europe and Southeast Asia and to train participants through ICT workshops and hands-on courses. EUSEA2006 will be officially opened by the European Commissioner for Information Society & Media - Viviane Reding.

Speaking on the event, Mr Victor Wong, project director of CommunicAsia with organiser Singapore Exhibition Services, said, “The coming together of CommunicAsia and such important gatherings as the imbX Ministerial Forum and the Euro Southeast Asia Forum is very powerful. CommunicAsia alone is the most established ICT show in Asia, and the ideal platform to launch and showcase new technologies and services to the world that will transform the way we live. This year in particular those new innovations can be shown to an even larger and more influential audience than ever before”.

At the show, some of the key technologies addressed include interactive and mobile entertainment, IPTV, 3G, VoIP, NGN, WiMAX, information security and embedded technologies. The companies behind them include Ericsson, Huawei, ZTE, NTT Docomo, LG, Lucent, Motorola, Samsung, Siemens and Sony Ericsson among many others.

This quality is also reflected in the top level executives speaking at the CommunicAsia2006 Summit – the conference arm of the show. The focus this year turns towards mobile applications, broadband and next generation networks as the industry’s three key growth areas. Issues that speakers will tackle include growing the next billion mobile subscribers, growing revenue in mature markets, broadband access, revenue models and service innovation, interesting services offered by IP multimedia, the future and growth of IMS & NGN, and their regulatory implications. Strategic partners Ovum and the IMS Forum pull their weight behind this year’s event along with the brains behind leading specialist newsletters Global Mobile and 3G Mobile.

Some of the speakers include Andrew Sukawaty, CEO and Chairman of Inmarsat, Joseph Anton Aliagas, CEO of Arena Mobile Music, Skuli Mogensen, CEO & Founder of OZ, Craig Wilson, IBM’s Asia Pacific Director for Digital Media
and Telecommunications, Craig Farrill, CEO of Kodiak Networks and Thorsten Heinz, Siemens CTO.

The focus on wireless will discuss if Mobile Telecom is becoming ‘another boring industry’ focused on international consolidation or will it benefit from another cycle of growth? While the growth of the number of subscribers is still healthy in many Asian countries, penetration starts reaching very high levels in many segments and more and more geographies. Simultaneously, gaming, video clips, value added services and audio seem struggling to compensate for the decrease of price per minute of voice.
