BWCS Launches Workshop and Conference on Wi-Fi on Trains

BWCS Launches Workshop and Conference on Wi-Fi on Trains

Ledbury, UK-/May 2, 2006 - Wi-Fi Technology News/-This summer, for the first time, train operators from all over the world will gather in London to hear from some of the leading pioneers of broadband internet access on trains. The two day event is being organised by wireless consultancy BWCS, which itself has been heavily involved in various Rail Wi-Fi projects, and will bring together all the main players in this sector.

The conference will address all the new technologies that are radically changing on-board train communications systems and look at the opportunities that these are throwing up. As Graham Wilde, CEO of BWCS, put it "With rail companies now able to offer continuous, real-time access to the internet from moving trains, operators are seizing new and dynamic ways to make their services more efficient, secure, profitable and safe."

Referring to the conference, Wilde continued "On the one hand this is a very specialized event but, on the other, the response we have had shows there is tremendous interest in this new sector. We're talking about a lot more than just a few commuters checking their e-mails here; these developments represent a radical rethinking of the role of telecommunications in rail businesses."

The event is being sponsored by Qualcomm and SCI Solutions and will include contributions from GNER in the UK, Thalys of Belgium, SJ Trains in Sweden, and NS from the Netherlands as well as T-Mobile International, QinetiQ Rail, SCI Solutions, 21 Net and many others. Delegates have already signed up from as far a field as Canada, San Francisco and Japan.

The speakers will provide first hand accounts of the problems and pitfalls that can befall operators and explain how these can successfully be avoided and overcome. The proponents of all the main wireless access technologies will debate their strategies and solutions as well as discuss the future development of the industry. To aid these workshops, BWCS has also commissioned exclusive research including passenger and user interviews.

The event will take place in Central London on the 7th and 8th of June. For further information please see http://www.TrainComms2006.com or e-mail Ross.Parsons@BWCS.com
