Institute of Acoustics Holding Seminar on Speech Intelligibility Measurements

One day-meeting organised by the Institute of Acoustics, 26 September, The Royal Society, London

London, UK-/July 18, 2006 - Wi-Fi Technology News/-The need to accurately measure speech intelligibility is becoming increasingly important, not only for Public Address and Voice Alarm/Life Safety systems but also in schools and other speech critical environments.

Transportation communication systems, intercoms, hands-free sets and other mobile communication systems also need to be assessed to ensure that adequate intelligibility is being provided. But how accurate are the measurements?

The Institute of Acoustics will be holding a one-day meeting on Intelligible Measurements to discuss measurement methods, metrics and other aspects to do with intelligibility measurement.

Topics will include: background and uses of intelligibility metrics; when the metrics don't work; measurement accuracy; measurement equipment and techniques; standards and calibration; effects of signal processing; passive acoustic and electro-acoustic system measurements; testing in the field; measuring STI classrooms and BB93 requirements; and dealing with non stable environments and background noise.

If you are involved with any form of speech intelligibility measurement or are interested in the audibility of speech in any sort of environment, then this meeting is a must!
