Truphone Announces Beta VoIP Download for Nokia's Wi-Fi Phone

Truphone launches true mobile VoIP service for Nokia's best-selling N80 handset; Demonstrations at Symbian Smartphone Show, Stand 117a

Symbian Smartphone Show - London, UK -/October 17, 2006 - Wi-Fi Technology News/- Truphone today announced a beta version of its free VoIP download for Nokia's best-selling, Wi-Fi-enabled N80 mobile handset. Available from the Truphone website later this month, the download instantly brings free and low-cost mobile calls within easy reach of all N80 handset owners.

Overwhelming customer demand for the Nokia N80 download became evident following the launch in September of Truphone's download for the Nokia E-series. Today's announcement therefore represents a step-change in the availability of true mobile VoIP for the mass market.

There are no hidden or monthly fees for any Truphone users and calls between 'on net' Truphone handsets are free, worldwide. As a launch offer to the end of the year, USA users benefit from free calls to USA and Canada, while the unique UK telecoms market enables Truphone to offer UK users calls some two billion landlines in major countries for free. All other Truphone calls from the user's mobile are billed at characteristically low VoIP rates.

"Support for Nokia's N80 handset brings true mobile VoIP to the mass market and gives Truphone genuine consumer appeal," said James Tagg, Truphone's chief executive. "Truphone routes calls entirely via the internet ensuring the lowest possible call costs to consumers whether in their home country or travelling abroad, unlike 'calling card' services masquerading as mobile VoIP."

In September, Truphone announced its first download, for Nokia's latest E-series handsets, with a promise that a download for N-series handsets would follow imminently. Support for additional Wi-Fi-enabled phones, including those built on the Windows Mobile platform, will come in due course.

Like the download for the E-series, Truphone's N80 download is beta software. The company has opened a discussion forum at http://www.mobilevoipforum.org where users and developers alike are encouraged to comment, question or contribute.

Getting Truphone: Provisioning, installation and use have been designed to be as easy as possible. Users send an SMS with the word "TRU" to a designated number [see below], provisioning takes place 'over the air' and the software installs itself quickly and easily on the mobile handset. Truphone integrates seamlessly with the phone using the existing address book, so there's nothing to re-type. Once set up to use a Wi-Fi hotspot, the handset connects automatically next time the phone is in range.

To get Truphone:
§ Users in the UK should send an SMS with the word TRU to shortcode 60030
§ Users in the USA should send an SMS with the word TRU to +44 7624 000 000
§ Users elsewhere should send an SMS with the word TRU to +44 7624 000 000

Important information about emergency calls: Truphone is not a replacement for an ordinary telephone service and emergency calls cannot be made using Truphone. However Truphone does not prevent emergency calls being made via a handset's normal cellular service provider.
