BelAir Announces First SLA For Wireless Equipment in City-wide Wireless Networks
Certified network design program offers first SLA to cities and service providers
Kanata, Ontario -/Wi-Fi Technology News/- BelAir Networks, the leading provider of mobile broadband multi-service wireless mesh network solutions, today announced the industry’s first and only Service Level Agreement (SLA) for broadband wireless equipment in city-wide wireless networks. For the first time, cities deploying metro-scale networks can specify and attain certified performance levels within wireless mesh networks deployed through BelAir Networks’ Certified Network Design Program.
BelAir Networks is showcasing its award-winning wireless mesh solutions in Booth #16 at the Muniwireless New England Conference, June 3-5, 2007, at the Newton Marriott in Newton, Massachusetts.
“A major factor for our partnership with BelAir Networks was the industry-leading performance that their wireless mesh network solutions deliver,” stated Joe Caldwell, US Internet Co-Founder and CEO. “We’ve always provided SLAs to our customers and now it’s great to work with a manufacturer that offers that level of assurance to us.” US Internet is currently deploying a 60-square-mile broadband wireless network to cover the entire City of Minneapolis with BelAir Networks industry-leading mobile broadband mesh networking solution.
As the wireless network industry matures, service providers and cities must be assured a reliable and consistent level of coverage and performance in order to support increasingly sophisticated network services using voice, video and data. More municipal networks are also extending their business models to include tiered offerings for residential users and enterprises where sustained internet connection speeds of 1 Mbps, 2 Mbps or 4 Mbps are required. BelAir Networks is the first vendor to offer a performance and coverage guarantee to ensure desired levels of service, predictability and QoS.
“SLAs have become an essential requirement for all service providers, wireline and wireless,” stated Craig Mathias, Principal, Farpoint Group. “As Wi-Fi networks expand to cover entire metro areas, they need to provide performance and coverage guarantees for mission-critical applications. With their new Certified Network Design Program, BelAir Networks is setting a new standard for the industry.”
BelAir Networks Certified Network Design Program
Early wireless network deployments have often delivered inconsistent and poor performance, coverage and reliability. Many of these issues have now been resolved in next generation mobile broadband mesh networks. With the BelAir Networks’ Certified Network Design Program, qualified service providers and cities have a new level of control over performance, operating and capital costs. Selecting BelAir Networks high performance infrastructure ensures their network will work properly from the initial deployment and as the network adds new subscribers and supported services.
Working closely with its certified partners, BelAir Networks will provide network operators with complete wireless mesh solutions that meet mutually agreed-upon business and performance objectives. If the fully installed network does not deliver the agreed upon performance and coverage, BelAir Networks will provide additional nodes to meet the specified coverage or speed – free of charge.
Under the program, the customer and their system integrator will agree upon performance and coverage objectives, and then design an architecture to meet those requirements. Through the program, BelAir Networks will then certify their design. Alternatively, BelAir Networks can both design and certify the networks for customers and integrators.
“With BelAir deployments in the field delivering tested performance of up to 8 Mbps, we believe it’s time to take the industry to a new level,” stated Jim Freeze, SVP of Marketing and Alliances, BelAir Networks. “We see SLAs as an emerging requirement for the long term success of municipal wireless mesh. Through BelAir Networks’ Certified Network Design Program, municipalities can now design and deploy wireless networks that meet their business model requirements including guaranteed performance and network coverage.”
With over 250 deployments worldwide, BelAir Networks and its partners have deployed next generation wireless mesh networks in leading cities including Minneapolis, London, and Toronto, as well as high-profile venues such as Dolphin Stadium in Miami. BelAir Networks offers the industry’s most flexible and comprehensive wireless mesh product portfolio.
