Worldwide Broadband Subscriptions to Exceed 536 Million by 2011
Fiber Will Grow to Nearly 12 Percent of Total by 2011
Boston, MA -/Wi-Fi Technology News/- Worldwide broadband subscriptions will exceed 536 million by 2011, with DSL representing over half of the market. Fiber (FTTx) and WiMax will be among the fastest growing access technologies in the next 5 years, according to a report just released by Strategy Analytics, "Worldwide Broadband Subscription Forecasts, 2007-2011."
"Ambitious fiber rollouts in the US by Verizon and AT&T, and in Europe by French operator Free, will bring overall FTT(x) subscriptions to 64 million by 2011," says Ben Piper, Director of the Strategy Analytics Broadband Network Strategies Service.
Broadband Service revenues will surpass $150 billion in 2011, with Europe, Asia Pacific and North America leading the way. This represents a 13% CAGR (2007-2011). Broadband ARPUs will remain stable on a worldwide level.
"Service providers cannot afford to stand still with current access technologies," according to David Mercer, Vice-President of the Strategy Analytics Digital Consumer Practice. "Fiber-to-the-home will eventually provide the ultimate broadband experience for many users, including high definition TV and lightning-fast interactive web-based services".
This report provides 5-year projections for subscription-based revenues generated by broadband households, including DSL, cable, fiber and other emerging broadband access technologies. The forecast covers 41 countries across Western Europe, Central and Eastern Europe, North America, Central and Latin America, Asia-Pacific and Middle East & Northern Africa.
