More operators in more countries set to enjoy the benefits of IP based picocells

More operators in more countries set to enjoy the benefits of IP based picocells

Cambridge UK, and Barcelona, Spain:-/Wi-Fi Technology News/-ip.access (Mobile World Congress: Hall 2, Stand 2D62) the leader in picocells and femtocells, is expanding its highly successful nanoGSM? picocell product range with two new models that deliver voice, GPRS and EDGE data in the 900 MHz and 850 MHz GSM bands, it announced today.

The nanoGSM system backhauls traffic over a cost-effective broadband IP connection and is already used by more than 30 mobile network operators worldwide - including most recently, TeliaSonera in Denmark. The new nanoGSM products open up the benefits of picocells to a broader range of mobile operators.

Many GSM networks operate only on the 850 or 900 MHz bands, including key markets in Latin America, Asia and Africa. The new nanoGSM picocells will enable these operators to offer their high value business customers the benefits of high speed EDGE data indoors for BlackBerry? and other applications, as well as dedicated voice coverage for the office.

In addition to solving indoor coverage problems, operators are increasingly using nanoGSM picocells as a cost-effective way to offload voice and data traffic from congested macro networks, and to attract new enterprise customers with dedicated voice and data solutions.

Commenting on today?s announcement, ip.access CEO Stephen Mallinson said, ?Our new high speed picocells build on the success of our existing nanoGSM products, opening up new markets where picocells can be deployed. They will help operators to better serve their customers inside buildings, where mobile phones are used the most.?
