SparkLAN and Ralink Unveil RT2880 SoC Chipset 802.11n Mini-PCI Module

Embedded System Conference Silicon Valley-/Wi-Fi Technology News/- SparkLAN, broadband wireless networking solution provider, and Ralink Technology, leading developer of 802.11x chipsets, unveils the latest IEEE 802.11n Mini-PCI module based on RT2880 SoC chipset. The design of RT2880 SoC combines 2T3R (2 Trasmit 3 Receive) MAC/BBP and MIPS CPU, can boost CPU efficiency to the original applications running in IP STB, Digital TV, VOIP Gateway, xDSL/Cable modem, DVR, Digital Media Adapters, and multi-media gateways. New products include 2.4/5GHz dual-band (WMIR-270N) and 2.4 GHz single-band (WMIR-269GN) Mini-PCI modules.

SparkLAN targets this rapidly growing wireless industry, providing product developers with a superior performance and cost-effective embedded wireless modules to bring multimedia (Data/Voice/Video) applications to the market. We add Ralink RT2880-based Mini-PCI modules to our portfolio of Wireless-N family for more resource demanding applications. The Ralink RT2880-based module incorporates MIPS 266 MHz core that offloads CPU loading. It is designed for HD video streaming including IP Set-Top Box, Residential Gateway, Digital TV, VoIP, xDSL/Cable modem, Digital Video Recorder and Home Cinema Systems. SparkLAN is Ralink?s authorized partner to sub-license driver source code (subject to licensing agreement) and offer technical assistance.

?We are very excited in working with Ralink to offer the cutting-edge product as part of our embedded system solutions.? said Mike Chen, CEO of SparkLAN. ?We always consider our customers? feedback as they complained that the AP/STA code of 802.11n take up too much CPU utilization. In response to customers for affordable high performance embedded module, we believe Ralink?s RT2880-based Mini-PCI module is among the best choices.?

?RT2880 has fully addressed the CPU loading problem for multimedia applications with 802.11n capabilities and provides the best wireless user experience? said Rick Jeng, President of Ralink Technology. ?We are glad that SparkLAN is ready to help customers to develop a myriad of bandwidth demanding applications ranging from IP Set-Top boxes, Digital TV, Home Theatre systems, Residential Gateways with the advantage of 802.11n.

Specifications of SparkLAN 802.11n module based on Ralink RT2880 SoC chipset:
    - WMIR-270N for 2.4/5GHz dual band (RT2880+RT2850 RF) Mini-PCI
    - WMIR-269GN for 2.4GHz single band (RT2880+RT2820 RF) Mini-PCI
    - Antenna architecture: 2Tx/3Rx
    - Linux Supported

SparkLAN also offers a full spectrum of Ralink-based modules including:
