Lenel, Enterprise Air and Symbol Technologies Join Forces to Provide Advanced, Mobile Security Solution for Little League World Series.
Rochester, N.Y. - August 18, 2003 - Lenel Systems International, Inc. today announced that it has teamed with Enterprise Air and Symbol Technologies, Inc. (NYSE: SBL) to donate an advanced mobile security solution for the 2003 Little League Baseball World Series, which will be held August 15-24 in Williamsport, Pennsylvania. Lenel is a global leader in the development and delivery of integrated security systems. Enterprise Air is a leading manufacturer of mobile security software, and Symbol Technologies is a global leader in enterprise mobility solutions. Their collaborative effort will help further safeguard the annual youth sporting event by enabling security personnel to use wireless computing technologies to control access to restricted areas.
"As concerns about security continue to escalate, particularly at high-profile events such as this, we are honored that the Little League Baseball organization entrusts us with the responsibility for securing the participants and grounds," said Elena Prokupets, Lenel's President and CEO. "We are pleased to partner with Enterprise Air and Symbol Technologies this year to provide an advanced technology, mobile solution to further ensure that this will be a safe and secure event."
This marks the fifth consecutive year that Lenel has donated its technology, products, expertise and personnel to the event. Lenel will supply its award-winning OnGuard(r) system to produce photo identification badges for the more than 3,000 players, coaches, volunteers and members of the media in attendance from all corners of the globe. These identification credentials will ensure an orderly and safe flow of authorized individuals into the athletic housing and main office complexes.
Besides photo identification badges, the OnGuard system will utilize digital video recorders and access control capabilities running on a wireless network at the various security checkpoints throughout the World Series grounds. The seamless integration of these technologies will provide security personnel with the information necessary to monitor and respond to any security event. Lenel staff will be present throughout the event to participate in the installation of the system and to assist with various security procedures.
"It's important to Little League Baseball to do our best to ensure everyone not only has a fun time at the Little League Baseball World Series, but a safe time as well," said Lance Van Auken, Little League's director of Media Relations. "I know the parents, fans, volunteers and everyone involved appreciate the extra measures that are now in place, and we certainly appreciate Lenel and Enterprise Air and Symbol Technologies making that possible," he added.
A database of registrants will be downloaded into the system before the games begin, to verify the identity of participants with the help of schools, parents and coaches. Storing cardholder data in one central location will be critically important to respond to medical and other emergencies that require the rapid retrieval of such information.
Equipped with Enterprise Air's badge verification application operating on Symbol PDT 8100 rugged handheld computers, security personnel will be able to check the badges of event participants. The badge information will be compared with information stored in the Lenel OnGuard database. Security personnel will be able to easily access color photos and other pertinent badgeholder information over a secure wireless network. In addition to providing mobile verification, the technology will also be used for field access control at the two stadiums, in which more than 300,000 spectators will attend games over the course of the nine-day event.
"We feel honored to be a part of the great Little League World Series tradition and are glad we could help make the event safer and more enjoyable for all in attendance," remarked Michael Hejtmanek, CEO of Enterprise Air. "This solution, developed in partnership with Lenel and Symbol, demonstrates the benefits of using mobile technologies to improve public safety."
The Little League Baseball organization was founded in 1939 in Williamsport, Pennsylvania. Today it has more than 2.7 million participants and spans 104 nations. Sixteen teams will compete in this year's tournament.
