New Linksys Wireless-B Internet Video Camera Sends Live Video Over the Web

Monitor What Is Happening in the Home or Office from Anywhere in the World Using a Web Browser

Sheffield, UK and IRVINE, CA ? Sept. 4, 2003 /Wi-Fi Technology News/- Linksys?, a division of Cisco Systems Inc., the leading provider of broadband, wireless and networking hardware for the consumer and Small Office/Home Office (SOHO) markets, today announced its Wireless-B Internet Video Camera (WVC11B), which enables the viewing of live video from a web browser anywhere in the world.

Unlike standard ?web cams? that require an attached PC, the Internet Video Camera contains its own IP address so it can connect directly to any existing Ethernet or Wireless network. Advanced MPEG-4 video compression produces live, high-quality video with 320x240 resolution. Advanced features include sending email notifications when motion is detected, and recording images with date and time stamps.

?Parents, small business owners, and many others need an affordable solution for monitoring the home or office from anywhere,? said Mike Wagner, director of marketing at Linksys. ?The Internet Video Camera works over your existing wireless or wired network, so it?s easy to install. When it detects motion, it can begin to record the video feed while sending an email to your office, your pager, or your cell phone. Linksys continues to expand the applications for wireless home networks, having recently introduced devices for attaching a TV, stereo (Wireless-B Media Adapter) and a game console (Wireless-B Game Adapter.?

The new Linksys Internet Video Camera allows customers to set up a wireless video monitoring system with viewing access available from almost any Internet location. Weighing only half of a pound, the Wireless-B Video Camera?s slim design and unique form factor make it easy for users to mount it in a variety of locations or simply slide it into the included stand for desktop use. Once the camera is connected to the Internet, users can ?see what it sees? from any Internet connected PC in the house, office or on the road. The camera can also be used for monitoring employees, babies in their crib or pets.

Users can create password-protected accounts to manage access to the camera. Up to four users can view the camera?s live images from outside the home or office network simultaneously. The camera also has a Security Mode that when activated, sends an email message with a short video attached whenever it detects motion in its field of view.

    Viewer & Recorder Utility

The Internet Video Camera includes a Viewer & Recorder utility, which lets users record the video stream with date and time stamp to a local hard drive ?live,? or on a predetermined schedule. This is ideal for people who would like to view activities that happen throughout the day the camera was recording.

SoloLink ? Dynamic Domain Name System (DDNS) Service

For the first time, Linksys is offering an optional service that makes the use and access of its wireless home products easier and friendlier. Many Internet providers assign a new IP address to a connection from time to time or anytime an Internet connection is restarted. The new SoloLink? service is a DDNS service that keeps track of the IP address of the camera, even when it changes, with an easy to remember web address the customer selects so the camera?s video stream can be found quickly and easily. All customers receive a free 90-day trial of the SoloLink service with the purchase of the Wireless-B Video Camera. The price of the SoloLink service starts at $19.99 for a 1-year subscription.

    Pricing and Availability

The Wireless-B Internet Video Camera (WVC11B) is available immediately through retail, E-commerce, catalog, value added resellers, direct response and distribution channels at an estimated street price of $229.
