Savi Technology to Use Fortress Technologies' Wireless Data Encryption

Savi Technology to Use Fortress Technologies' Wireless Data Encryption to Enhance Security of U.S. Department of Defense Cargo Transport

Chicago, Tampa, Fla. and Sunnyvale, Calif., Sept. 2003 ? Fortress Technologies, the leader in security for wireless networks, today announced that Savi Technology, a leading provider of real-time solutions for the management, monitoring and security of supply chain assets, will use its wireless data encryption technology to further enhance security of data transmissions within the DoD?s Total Asset Visibility network. The announcement was made at Frontline?s International Supply Chain Week Conference & Expo in Chicago.

Fortress Technologies was selected by Savi Technology for its data encryption security solution as part of the company?s multi-year procurement contract with the DoD. Under the contract, Savi Technology is providing the DoD with Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) hardware along with related logistics software and services.

?We partnered with Fortress Technologies because of its leadership in wireless security technology and its proven track record of successful implementations in highly-sensitive environments within the federal government and the DoD,? said Steven Farrell, Director, Hardware Product Management, Savi Technology. ?We?re continuously improving the capabilities of the TAV network, and our relationship with Fortress is another example of how we?re accomplishing this.?

Fortress Technologies and Savi Technology are collaborating to offer existing Savi Technology customers an effective security system to help maintain the highest levels of wireless network security, user privacy, access control, encryption and device and user authentication. These system capabilities are now available.

?We?re pleased to work with Savi Technology, which is the worldwide authority in RFID systems and integrated software, as evidenced by their ability to secure major contracts over the past decade with one of the world?s largest shippers -- the DoD. Together, Savi and Fortress will further ensure the security of data transmissions for mission-critical operations,? said John Dow, senior director of business development, Fortress Technologies. ?We?re also looking forward to working with Savi customers in the commercial sector, to secure RFID systems and enhance real-time technologies that are enabling better visibility and security throughout the global supply chain.?

The Total Asset Visibility network is the world?s largest active cargo tracking system, which monitors and manages up to 300,000 supply shipments through over 750 locations in more than 40 countries during times of peace and conflict. The technology and infrastructure developed for TAV also is leveraged for the global commercial shipping community as part of Smart and Secure Tradelanes, an industry initiative to improve the security and efficiency of transporting cargo containers and their contents.

Fortress Technologies provides a complete solution for today?s wireless LANs, combining privacy, authentication and access control in a single offering. The company has achieved market leader status through deployments with the Defense Commissary Agency, Carolinas HealthCare, U.S. Army, Department of Veterans Affairs, U.S. Air Force and numerous commercial/enterprise customers.
