TTP Communications’ subsidiary ip.access announces nanoGSM solution is chosen by T-Mobile USA, Inc. to enhance in-building coverage
• ip.access has inked a multi-year supply agreement with T-Mobile for the supply of nanoGSM basestations in the USA
• Solution delivers capacity and coverage in indoor environments and will be used to deliver service for a variety of applications.
Cambridge, October 23rd — ip.access ltd., a wholly owned subsidiary of TTP Communications plc (LSE:TTC), today announces it has been awarded a multi-year contract to supply its nanoGSM™ products, including basestations, basestation controllers and management systems, for use in T-Mobile USA, Inc.’s network nationwide.
The solution is geared to providing enhanced coverage inside buildings, and employs the world’s smallest GSM basestation, the nanoBTS™. By using the building’s existing Ethernet infrastructure, the basestations can very easily be distributed around the building delivering service exactly where it is needed. The use of IP also simplifies and cost-reduces the backhaul connection.
Traditional solutions to indoor coverage problems have required complex antenna and frequency planning and management. By contrast, the nanoGSM solution, with power-over-Ethernet, IP-backhaul, and unique radio network analysis (Network Listen) functionality, can be rapidly configured and integrated within existing infrastructure with the minimum of disruption.
“The ip.access solution is attractive from a number of viewpoints, not least of which is its use of IP, permitting a variety of cost-effective options for backhaul as well as enabling T-Mobile to improve coverage inside buildings simply and efficiently” said Tim Wong, CTO and Executive VP, T-Mobile.
Stephen Mallinson, Managing Director, ip.access added, “We are obviously delighted with this contract and see it as a evidence of our ability to provide high quality, commercially-attractive solutions to major mobile network operators.”
The ip.access nanoBTS is a GSM/GPRS pico-basestation that uses IP networks to deliver cellular voice and data services in the smallest and most cost-effective package available today. Through the innovation of using IP as the backhaul medium, the nanoBTS provides coverage and capacity simply and efficiently. The nanoBTS is part of the ip.access nanoGSM solution, which allows network operators to boost mobile phone coverage in traditionally hard-to-reach areas, enabling new applications such as Wireless Office.
