Wi-Fi, Broadband and Network Security; Three of Several Networking Topics to Be Addressed at 17th Annual Next Generation Networks (NGN) Conference

Los Angeles, October 31, 2003 /The Wi-Fi Technology Forum/- MediaLive International, Inc., the world’s leading producer of information technology events, and Business Communications Review magazine, is holding three major topics of focus to be addressed at the 17th annual Next Generation Networks (NGN) conference slated for November 3–7, 2003, in Boston. Next generation wireless, including “Wi-Fi,” broadband technologies and emerging network security technologies will be the major highlights of the conference, along with a high-level discussion on the newest products and services impacting the networking industry today and years to come.
Keynoters Sean Maloney of Intel Communications Group, will be discussing:
Topic: Evolution vs. Revolution: the Modular Network.

Gary Weis of Cometa Networks, will concentrate on:
Topic: The Wi-Fi Revolution: Transforming Hype Into Reality.

Michael Gallagher for the National Telecommunications & Information Administration will Head Key Discussions.
Topic: Broadband and Spectrum Policy: A View From the Administration.

“As the industry leaves the telecom bust behind and begins growing again, NGN will play an important role in helping to shape the future direction of network technologies, products and services,” said David Passmore, research director for the Burton Group and NGN Conference co-chairman. “Along with this year’s agenda and industry-leading experts who will be speaking and providing instruction at the conference, NGN promises to be the premier conference for attendees to glean the latest information on networking trends and debate the key issues affecting the industry and networking technology in general.”

As the networking industry continues to restore growth and profitability, issues surrounding technologies such as broadband wireless, packet telephony, optical networking, 10-gigabit Ethernet and storage networking are currently being debated in companies throughout the world. Participants will learn how major networking players are approaching these challenges and how they are building truly scalable, reliable and secure high-performance converged netwmrks.

While NGN is the only technical conference focused exclusively on high performance networking solutions, the main focus of the show will cover decisions that vendors, service providers and enterprise users will have to make 2–5 years down the road. Past NGN conferences have been the foundation for the establishment of several networking trends including frame relay, ATM and optical networking.

“Our industry [networking] is at a turning point,” said John M. McQuillan, Ph.D., co-chairman and founder of NGN. “With the abundant demand for broadband network services, such as DSL and cable and slow-to-mature technologies, like wireless data networking and carrier-grade Ethernet winning acceptance, restoring growth in the networking industry is looking very promising.”
