Desktop anti virus protection, mobile device access and email filtering added to unique offering

Sheffield, UK and Worldwide, November 3, 2003 /The Wi-Fi Technology Forum/-Solution 1, the UK-based operation created by Siemens to offer the fast-growing SME market all the IT benefits of its larger corporate rivals, is to build on its success with a major expansion of its unique pay-as-you-go services.

Companies ranging from single traders to those with up to 1,000 users can now have access to IT packages which start at only £20 per month and involve only a 30-day forward commitment.

Today’s announcement concentrates on three significant areas for SMEs – connectivity, productivity and being safe and secure. The connectivity capability includes connecting remote sites into site to site VPNs and home to site VPNs, providing remote access while on the move, or from home to the workplace, and the security advantages of connecting to the outside world via the Solution 1 gateway.

These services all offer considerable productivity benefits to the customer, while Solution 1’s built-in security automatically provides four virus checks on an around the globe basis, as well as offsite back-up for vital data, managed desktop virus checking and web content filtering and blocking.

Solution 1’s services can be purchased on a modular basis to allow customers to buy what they need to suit their particular needs.

New services added from today include:

• Desktop anti virus checking. A large and growing proportion of attacks on IT come from the “inside”, with web-based email systems and floppy discs being the main culprits. Solution 1 can now extend its protection to the customer side of the network and sees this development as vital as companies extend the use home-based field forces and teleworkers

• Mobile devices that provide “as it happens” synchronisation of email, calendar and contacts.
• Mail content filtering – particularly anti-spam – to maximise productivity and minimise risk

“Any SME in this country has the opportunity to be backed by truly world-class, highly secure, IT infrastructure for a fraction of the normal investment cost and in a totally future-proofed environment,” said Solution 1 Managing Director Stuart Fraser.

“There is nowhere else in the world where SMEs can be as IT-competitive. Our commitment is to continue to drive forward in making sure this vital part of UK business has the very best capability and at a price they can afford.”

Today’s announcement is the latest development from Solution 1, which was established by Siemens in the East Midlands nearly three years ago. It initially expanded into the West Midlands before going national in the Autumn of 2002 and now has hundreds of new users signing for its service each month. It has won business across a wide variety of sectors but has shown particular growth in the legal, manufacturing and hotel markets.

Mr Fraser added, “Solution 1 gives SMEs the comfort they need and lets them get on with running their business rather than worrying about IT.”

“They don’t need to employ someone to look after their systems, they don’t need to worry about obsolescence of equipment and they have the very best security on their network in an area when in the past year alone 44% of UK businesses have faced a serious attack on their infrastructure”.

Solution 1 provides the latest in communication and business applications, paid for on a per user per month basis and delivered from a highly secure, state-of-the-art central computer centre. For further information please visit http://www.solution1.co.uk
