With the increase in popularity for laptop or notebook computers starting to eat into the monopoly once held by desktop, PC users are increasingly becoming more mobile in their use of computing technology. Laptop and tablet PCs are believed to account for 26% of all new PC shipments, with around 33 million expected to be shipped in 2003. Visiongain believes that by 2006, 90% of all corporate users' laptops will include wi-fi capability.
The 'Public W-LAN' conference will focus on the adoption of W-LAN by the business community outside the corporate office and by venues hoping to capture a share of revenues or boost their core product sales. His passion for the Internet was fueled by his studies in emerging media at the University of California at Santa Barbara. Prior to Pronto, Carl was the director of business development for Cobion AG. He was responsible for rolling out their Internet Brand Protection Service and developing partnerships with PriceWaterhouseCoopers, Thomson and Thomson, Verisign, KPMG, Mastercard, and Visa International. Prior to Cobion, Carl worked with Internet service providers The Well, Whole Earth Networks, and Slip.net. At Slip.net he was responsible for the sales and roll out of DSL, Dedicated Access and MMDS wireless services. Carl was recognized as a 'Top of the List' Internet Professional by the San Francisco Business Times in 1998.
