Agere Systems Establishes Asia/Pacific Development and Support Centre in Taiwan

TAIPEI, Taiwan /Wi-Fi Technology News/- Agere Systems (NYSE: AGR.A, AGR.B) has established an Asia/Pacific Development and Support Centre in Taipei, Taiwan, to strengthen its design and technical cooperation with Asia/Pacific customers. The centre, which officially opened today, will initially focus on 802.11b and 802.11a/b/g multimode Wi-Fi? solutions, and later expand to such areas as VoIP, VoWLAN, printing and imaging, modem and Gigabit Ethernet, in line with growth opportunities in the Asia/Pacific region.

The support centre will provide hardware design, debug and performance measurement as well as software support for product applications designed with Agere chip sets. The team in Taipei will also be working closely with other Agere design centres in the Netherlands and the United States to customize products according to the needs of customers throughout Asia, including China.

The company hopes to further strengthen its relationships with Taiwan-based contract manufacturers as the rapid development of telecom, computer and consumer electronics products continues.

"The highly talented technical community in Taiwan has provided a solid extension of our support to customers in Asia/Pacific," said Ron Black, the Agere executive vice president who officiated at today's opening of the centre. "With our new Development and Support Centre here, we can offer customers rapid localization and quicker time to market due to the proximity to our customer base in Asia."
