Motorola and GIGA STREAM to announce successful Interoperability Test

Mobile switching equipment from Motorola interoperates perfectly with the Universal Navigation Switch (UNS®)

6th February, 2004 /The Wi-Fi Technology Forum/- GIGA STREAM is announcing the successful completion of its interoperability tests with Motorola’s mobile switching equipment. The tests proved the interoperability with Radio Access Networks to core mobile switching equipment, which underlined the efficient and flexible implementation of GIGA STREAM’s Universal Navigation Switch (UNS).
"GIGA STREAM’s solution works perfectly with our advanced radio access solutions and the unique intelligent content sensitive traffic engine built-into the UNS enables a raft of new attractive applications for mobile operators – we see a huge demand for such an integrated network platform," says Hermann Weiffenbach, Vice President & Global Account Director Deutsche Telekom at Motorola.

Motorola’s expertise in IOT helps mobile operators to make a smooth transition to next generation mobile networks. The UMTS solution design and services expertise enable rapid deployment – and once operational, will continue to target operators' capital and operational expenditure levels for long-term business effectiveness. The UNS IOT tests were conducted in a live environment at Motorola’s purpose-built laboratory in Swindon, UK. The tests followed the official standards of the Network Vendor IOT forum as derived from the 3G Partnership Project specification. They included 384 kbit/s video transmissions across UMTS radio interfaces that successfully achieved layer-to-layer interoperability verification.

"With the UNS, GIGA STREAM developed the first product that perfects the convergence of voice, video and data for fixed and mobile operators. The successful completion of our carrier grade IOT tests together with Motorola have confirmed the full range of the UNS’s integration capabilities, and our first systems are now being installed in several mobile networks," says Thomas Maul, Founder and CEO of GIGA STREAM.

The UNS is setting the pace for providing less expensive, yet more versatile, switching solutions to operators as they migrate to the design of voice, data and video service nodes for next-generation wireless networks. This cost effective approach can seamlessly integrate with existing mobile networks and enables faster speed to market for new features and applications. The flexible UNS platform supports 2G / 2.5G standards and aligns with future 3G and all-IP evolution including WLAN/WiFi integration. These advantages translate into savings for operators including lower capital expenditure and switch-operating costs with technology migration and transport costs. UNS appeals to emerging markets and early adaptors in mature markets

The Universal Navigation Switch from GIGA STREAM has several significant advantages over traditional legacy switch solutions. They are particularly appealing in emerging markets and among early adaptors in mature markets where operators find them an attractive option for upgrading their networks with intelligent content sensitive traffic monitoring (CSTM) capabilities. This allows for greater impact on their network intelligence including traffic visualization and innovative billing applications.

The UNS network switch dramatically reduces the complexity and integration effort for mobile operators. It increases the adoption rate of new applications and helps mobile operators win new customers by satisfying end-user demand. It also centralizes operational functions and adds value with the integration of the various networks and topologies into a single platform. This will ensure full, seamless interworking of all wireless and Internet technologies.
