Bluesocket and Packeteer Team to Offer Integrated QoS Solutions for Wi-Fi Networks
Burlington, Mass., February 10, 2004/Wi-Fi Technology News/- Bluesocket Inc., the leading vendor of open-systems Wireless Local Area Network (WLAN) management and security solutions, today announced a global agreement with Packeteer? (NASDAQ: PKTR), a leading provider of application traffic management solutions. Through this agreement Bluesocket and Packeteer will work together to ensure interoperability of their respective solutions for QoS in Wi-Fi networks. They will also engage in co-marketing and sales initiatives.
Hewlett-Packard (NYSE: HPQ) recently deployed the combined solution at Canada?s largest airport, Pearson International, managed by the Greater Toronto Airport Authority (GTAA). A case study is available on the Internet at http://www.hp.com/hps/success/ss_gtaa.html.
The Wi-Fi network was deployed to support a variety of applications critical to the airport?s airlines and other tenants. Mobility, flexibility and performance were of utmost importance in the network?s design and deployment.
?It?s more and more critical these days for organizations to maintain complete control over how their network traffic responds under stress, and to apply devices like Packeteer?s on the WAN/LAN, and Bluesocket on the wireless LAN, to maximize that control,? said Victor Garcia, Managing Principal, Hewlett-Packard?s Wireless and Mobility Program Office. ?The combination of Bluesocket and Packeteer creates a more reliable and flexible wireless network that will better service its users.?
Bluesocket's Wireless Gateways deliver an open-systems approach to secure and manage Wi-Fi networks and provide authentication, Secure Mobility (tm), policy and bandwidth management through unparalleled interoperability with legacy infrastructure and WLAN standards.
Packeteer delivers an Application Traffic Management system via intelligent appliances at the LAN/WAN interface. This helps enterprises align network applications and resources with business needs and maximize network and application investments.
The Packeteer system protects and accelerates key business applications and contains malicious, recreational and other non-business traffic.
"Throwing more bandwidth at the problem of network congestion is not the answer, whether it?s wireless LAN or wide area network and Internet access," said Alex Kim, Vice President of Business Development, Bluesocket. "We see tremendous value in offering the market a broader choice of traffic management options. Bluesocket?s expertise lies in role-based traffic management whereas Packeteer offers it at the application layer. Packeteer?s application traffic management brings added value to Bluesocket?s wireless deployments, in addition to the value it brings to enterprises overall."
"Bluesocket and Packeteer are the first to provide a comprehensive and integrated wireless access solution that gives large enterprises the ability to regain control of what may be a chaotic situation,? said Ajmal Noorani, vice-president of business development for Packeteer.
