Legra Systems and Funk Software to strengthen wireless LAN security

Legra Systems and Funk Software to strengthen wireless LAN security

BURLINGTON, Mass., Feb. 28, 2004 -/Wi-Fi Technology News/- Legra Systems and Funk Software announced a strategic relationship that will provide customers with a powerful wireless local area network (WLAN) security solution.

?We believe that Legra has a very strong commitment to security. We are happy to team with them to offer a joint solution to our customers that provides the strong security they require on an extensible, easily integrated, and simple switching platform,? said Joe Ryan, vice president of Funk Software.

Funk Software?s Odyssey? and Steel Belted Radius? WLAN security software along with the Legra LS2012 WLAN switch and Legra Radio access points interoperate seamlessly. The Legra Wireless LAN Switching Solution ? which combines the LS2012, and a family of Legra radios ? gives companies wireless economy and flexibility with the security and performance of a wired LAN.

?Until now, customers were required to choose from a complex array of technologies and products to secure their WLAN,? said Legra Vice President of Marketing Paul DeBeasi. ?This process was time consuming and costly for our customers. The Legra-Funk Software partnership enables our customers to rapidly and cost-effectively deploy a secure WLAN using an all-in-one security solution.?

Both companies are cross-training their staffs in each others? products to give customers a single source for WLAN switching and security. In addition, Legra will enable customers to access Funk Software downloads via its Web site.

Funk Software?s Odyssey and Steel Belted Radius are based on the IEEE security standard 802.1X. They provide strong security over the wireless link, including user authentication via RADIUS (Remote Authentication Dial-in User Service), data security using Wi-Fi Protected Access (WPA) encryption protocol, and access permission. Odyssey comprises Odyssey Client, a multi-platform, multi-protocol 802.1X access client that is easily deployed enterprise-wide, and Odyssey Server, a RADIUS server specially designed to handle WLAN access control and security.

Steel-Belted Radius is an award-winning RADIUS server that easily handles WLAN, wired 802.1X, and remote/VPN user authentication and security. Funk Software?s products support the widest variety of network access equipment (WLAN access points, dial-in servers, firewalls, VPNs, etc.) and back-end data systems, plus provide best-in-market reliability and transactional capacity to handle the most demanding network environments.
