UK-based Business School Adds Voice to Wireless Local Area Network
BOULDER, Colo., May 22 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- SpectraLink Corporation (NASDAQ:SLNK) , an industry pioneer in enterprise wireless communications, announced today that it has installed its NetLink Wireless Telephones in the Anglia Polytechnic University (APU), based in Chelmsford, England. APU installed SpectraLink's NetLink Wireless Telephones in the newly built Michael A. Ashcroft Building, which houses the university's Ashcroft International Business School.
The decision to incorporate NetLink Wireless Telephones with the new building's Wi-Fi wireless local area network (LAN) is part of APU's plan to create a high-tech education facility that will serve as a model for future campus expansions. The new building, equipped with 45 NetLink Wireless Telephones, will officially open May 28th in a ribbon cutting ceremony led by the Royal Highness Earl of Wessex.
Faculty will use the NetLink Wireless Telephones throughout the four- story, high-tech glass building while attending classes, meeting with students, and conducting research. The Ashcroft building's conference center also will house several NetLink Wireless Telephones for the students' use.
APU selected SpectraLink's NetLink Wireless Telephones because the system easily and seamlessly integrates with the university's existing Mitel SX2000 PBX. This interoperability also allowed APU to continue working with Proxim, which provided the wireless LAN infrastructure consisting of 46 Wi-Fi access points, 26 of which are installed in the new Ashcroft building and 20 of which dot the APU campus.
"Offering our students and faculty wireless voice communications using SpectraLink's NetLink Wireless Telephones gives them the benefits of high-tech mobility," said Steve Heppolette, APU Network Engineer. "In addition to providing the best learning environment for our staff and students, the university itself is able to maximize gains on a wireless LAN in which we already invested."
"We are excited that Anglia Polytechnic University has included NetLink Wireless Telephones in its progressive communications strategy, making it an excellent model of technological advancement for universities worldwide," said Mike Cronin, vice president of sales and marketing for SpectraLink. "We expect other colleges and universities to follow APU's strong lead in deploying wireless voice communications to better serve their students and faculty."
