T-Mobile UK Launches Telsis-Powered Customised Ringing


March 10, 2004 /Wi-Fi Technology News/-T-Mobile UK has become the first European operator to launch customised ringing ? thanks to the flexibility and easy programmability of Telsis Ocean fastIP IVR platforms.

T-Mobile UK is already one of the largest European users of Telsis fastIPs, deploying the units to host a variety of services including automated customer care and query handling.

The operator?s Caller Tunes service lets its customers replace the standard ?ring-ring? that their callers hear with a range of recorded music.

In Korea, where customised ringing was pioneered, 34% of phone users on the launching network signed up within 12 months. Some market predictions suggest that the overall European demand for such services could be worth more than 1 Billion Euros a year. T-Mobile UK is charging customers a ?1.50 per-tune set-up fee plus ?1 per month rental.

Customers may select from more than 100 different Caller Tunes songs ranging from contemporary and classic pop to film scores. They can make their choice either by browsing and pre-listening to the portfolio of Caller Tunes via their mobile phones or the T-Mobile website (http://www.t-mobile.co.uk). Then, set-up of Caller Tunes is made easy by simply texting or calling the code of the song requested to 454545.

Fully carrier-grade, the Telsis Ocean fastIP is ideal for hosting customised ringing services like Caller Tunes because of its inherent ability to handle continuously high volumes of short duration calls reliably while delivering the same high quality of service to every caller, regardless of loading. With up to 6,000 hours capacity for high-quality audio, the fastIP can support a vast library of music selections.

The fastIP can operate entirely under the control of the Ocean fastSCP, or other Intelligent Network (IN) service control point, or can operate independently having been programmed via its internal service creation and execution environment. A standalone fastIP can support up to 1000 simultaneous, different services.

Services are selected by the number dialled, and content can be varied according to the CLI or other signalling parameters. Services may be added or modified concurrently whilst the platform is in operation and can be activated or deactivated automatically on a timed basis, thereby maintaining service availability.

Interactive facilities include DTMF and voice detection, available simultaneously on every channel. An optional conferencing capability enables callers to be connected together. Live audio feeds can be connected via dial-in circuits. ISDN Keypad protocol enables the fastIP to communicate with and control other equipment including network switches - ideal for advanced applications such as mid-call transfer.

External database or host communications can be achieved directly from the fastIP via TCP/IP. In an Intelligent Network environment, the fastIP can optionally support INAP over SS7 TC. Similarly, optional support for CAP allows the fastIP to be used in a CAMEL environment.
