Quick question. Have been on broadband at home for ages. All worked fine. When I moved house I thought would be ideal time to try going wireless. Setup is

XP SP2, 3.2GHZ, 512RAM, 50GB HD.

Is brand new laptop so know that isn't the issue. Had broadband installed today and works fine via LAN cable into the laptop. A friend gave me his old router and want to know if it is possible to use it instead of getting a new one. Is SMC7004AWBR. Pretty old school (eg no XP instructions in the manual which i downloaded. Eg doesnt have a USB port so cant just use the XP wizard)

Problem is I can seemingly set up a network which is recognised by my laptop and signal strength is full. Though when I try to plug the LAN from the cable modem into the router, I can't get online. Can anyone tell me a)if they think it is possible to hook it up and b) if so give me a walkthrough of which settings to change.

Thanks
