Adax Announces New High Availability Addition To Its Signalling Gateway Products

New Fully Redundant Signalling Gateway Pair for High Availability

Mobile Infratech, London-/21 Oct, 2004 - Wi-Fi Technology News/-Adax has announced a significant new High Availability addition to its family of signalling gateway products. The Adax SG-HA has a fully redundant design with no single point of failure to provide a highly reliable SS7 ? IP gateway solution. Designed to be implemented as a mated pair with a single point code the SG-HA performs like a traditional SS7 STP, relaying traffic rather than being an endpoint, while providing IP inter-working with SIGTRAN endpoints and SoftSwitches.

In addition to M3UA (MTP3 User Adaptation Part) both the Signaling Connection Control Part (SCCP) and the SUA (SCCP User Adaptation Layer) protocols have been added to the Adax SG-HA Gateway. SS7 SCCP provides connectionless network services above MTP3 and is used as the transport layer for TCAP-based services such as freephone, calling card, local number portability, wireless roaming, and personal communications services (PCS). SCCP also provides the means by which an Adax SG can perform global title translation (GTT) to enable the destination signaling point and subsystem number (SSN) to be determined from the signaling message. SUA is a SIGTRAN protocol for transporting SCCP user part signalling messages (e.g. TCAP) over IP using SCTP. SUA is used between a signalling gateway and an IP signalling endpoint, or between IP signalling endpoints and supports unordered and in-sequence connectionless services, bi-directional connection-oriented services with or without flow control and detection of message loss and out-of-sequence errors. SUA operates with either connection-oriented or connectionless transport and is a signalling solution for companies who are running SCCP on SS7 devices that need to connect to IP devices.

?With the announcement of the SG-HA we have now added STP functionality to our range of Signalling Gateways? said Barry Zuckerman, President of Adax Inc. ?This fully redundant, distributed solution that appears to the network as a single point code is a must for our high-end telecom customers.?

The link density, throughput and performance of the Adax Signalling Gateways have all been increased following upgrades to the communications controllers and software modules. These improvements enable operators to manage the growth of their network while maximising revenues and satisfying consumer demands for new services.

The five Adax SS7 over IP gateways for switching, routing, tunnelling and backhaul are capable of supporting up to 2 million BHCA (Busy Hour Call Attempts) and are scalable up to 5 million BHCA and beyond. Each Adax Gateway system can support up to 64 SS7 LSLs or 4 HSLs (subject to configuration). In addition, the gateways are now capable of delivering 253 SCTP associations with up to 25 secondary IP addresses per association. The gateways are NEBS certified platforms for carrier-grade system reliability and the new Adax SG-HA has a fully redundant design with no single point of failure to provide a highly reliable SS7 ? IP gateway solution. With outstanding performance and reliability the Adax gateways offer one of lowest costs per link and highest throughputs available on the market today.

The Adax signalling gateways enable the simple and straightforward migration of existing SS7 Nodes to IP transport, saving the costs associated with leasing or provisioning dedicated long haul SS7 circuits. In addition, the migration to IP signalling enables the network to deal with the increasing demands for bandwidth from new applications such as video gaming and with the more ?bursty? nature of traffic generated by SMS and multi-media messaging.

The Adax gateways offer various types of SS7 over IP solutions to suit the different stages of migration to IP signalling. The gateways have a common field hardware platform and through a simple software upgrade can easily evolve with changing IP needs including M2PA, M2UA, M3UA and SUA. They are also readily scalable to grow in line with the demands of the network, future-proofing a customer?s equipment investment choice.
