Studio EDGE Introduces Support for Constantly Connected and Casually Connected Mobile Applications in Standards-based Environments

KIRKLAND, Wash.---/Wi-Fi Technology News/---May 27, 2003-- Wavelink Corporation, a leading provider of mobile infrastructure software for the enterprise, today introduced Wavelink Studio EDGE(TM), the newest addition to the Wavelink Studio(TM) product line, the market-leading mobile application development platform for commercial-grade rugged wireless devices. Studio EDGE enables developers to quickly and easily build business-critical wireless applications commonly used in supply chain management, warehouse management, retail store systems, delivery and field force automation environments.

This latest release of Studio features the ability to create and deploy constantly connected, casually connected or disconnected mobile applications in standards-based, Web services environments, which allows applications to function with or without network connections and are ideal for creating seamless business processes in the supply chain. The product also includes a new GUI-based designer that enables developers to easily build new applications that can run on Windows CE, Pocket PC, Java-enabled and legacy DOS-based devices. Applications built with Studio EDGE can be deployed and administered directly on leading J2EE application servers, such as IBM WebSphere, BEA WebLogic or Apache Tomcat.

"The enterprise developer requires powerful tools to develop mission-critical applications across the broadest range of application-specific devices that span both wireless local area and wide area networks. With Studio EDGE, developers can rapidly create reliable transactional applications that are crucial for uninterrupted business processes," said Dave Bullis, CEO and president of Wavelink. "No other solution today offers complete support for virtually any DOS- or CE-based device, mixed networks, and a wide range of J2EE server platforms."

Studio EDGE lets enterprises:

Rapidly deploy new wireless applications that can run in constantly or casually connected network environments: Applications built with Studio EDGE can support constantly-connected, casually-connected and disconnected applications in a mixed wireless LAN/wireless WAN environment. Studio EDGE is the most complete mobile development tool for running mission-critical applications on J2EE back-end server platforms, including, Unix or AS/400.

Protect their investment in legacy devices and systems: With Studio EDGE, enterprises can protect their investments in DOS-based wireless devices and legacy infrastructure while taking full advantage of new standards-based Web services architectures that support newer Windows-based mobile devices. Developers can add new mobile devices and integrate new wireless applications without rewriting their old applications.

Support devices from multiple vendors: Wavelink works closely with all leading rugged handheld manufacturers, including Symbol Technologies, Intermec, PSC, Psion/Teklogix and others, creating the industry's most comprehensive library for developing for virtually any DOS-based and Windows Pocket PC or CE-based device. With Studio EDGE, all devices can be run from a single application seamlessly controlled by one Studio application.

In addition to introducing Studio EDGE, Wavelink today unveiled Wavelink Studio COM(TM), which enables developers to build constantly-connected applications for deployment in a dedicated Windows-based client-server environment. Studio COM, which replaces Studio 3.6, supports C, C++, Visual Basic and other COM programming environments, and is compatible with all current and past versions of Wavelink Studio.

Pricing and Availability

The Studio EDGE Starter Pack costs $9,750 and includes the Studio EDGE server and 50 client licenses. Additional Studio EDGE client licenses can be purchased for $195 per client. The Studio COM server costs $195 and includes one client. Additional Studio COM clients are available for $195 each.
